The Facts: Once practice gets going, Henry gets going, too. But early on, HC Mike Mularkey said he's not seeing enough from the Titans rookie running back. "I will say this about Derrick: I don't think he's a fast starter," Mularkey said after Thursday's practice, the fifth of Titans camp. "I've got to talk to him about that tempo period because we've got a bunch of guys up front that are creating things for him and he's not hitting it like I'd like to see him hit it, [like he is] later in the practice. I hope that's not the case in games. We need him to be full strength. As soon as we call his number, he needs to hit things better."
Diehards Line:
Henry is just getting started and he has time to learn about things like setting the right pace right from the start. If things go the way the Titans hope they do, he’s going to be an alternative to DeMarco Murray when Murray needs a break or the Titans want a fresh back in the game who brings a similar style. As ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky suggests, a back put into games in that situation won’t have time to ease in. He’ll need to be a fast starter. Mularkey will be telling Henry just that. “I just need to keep playing faster," the Heisman Trophy winner said. “It’s not a rookie thing, it’s just something I need to work on.”
