The Facts: The Lions said farewell to receiver Calvin Johnson on Tuesday and they'll reportedly welcome Jones to the team on Wednesday. Dianna Marie Russini of ESPN reports that Jones will sign with the Lions when the new league year begins at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday afternoon.
Diehards Line:
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the deal is expected to be in the neighborhood of $8 million per year. As PFT suggests, Jones isn’t going to do the same things for the Lions that Johnson did, although that kind of production is hardly something they could have hoped to find on the free agent market. Jones is coming off the best season of his career, however, and set career highs for both catches (65) and receiving yards (816) with the Bengals in 2015. Jones will immediately move into the starting lineup opposite Golden Tate.
