The Facts: Building depth at the wide receiver position for the next two years, the Patriots have reached a two-year, $3 million contract extension with Martin, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates on Saturday.
Diehards Line:Martin, who was acquired from the Texans in a trade on Sept. 17, has 24 catches for 269 yards and two touchdowns this season. He has played in nine games for the Patriots, with eight starts. He was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent. As part of the extension, the 5-11, 194-pound Martin receives a $600,000 signing bonus, with base salaries of $850,000 in 2016 and $1 million in 2017. The Patriots have top receivers Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell and Danny Amendola under contract in 2016, although LaFell's production dipped this season and Amendola's base salary spikes to $5 million, which is high for a No. 3 option.
