The Facts: There had been optimism that Spiller would be ready for the start of the regular season after undergoing minor knee surgery in mid-August. Apparently that optimism has been somewhat overstated. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Spiller will not play this week in the Saints season opener against the Arizona Cardinals.
Diehards Line:
Spiller had arthroscopic knee surgery on August 14 after getting hurt early in training camp. He missed the entire preseason for New Orleans after signing a four-year, $16 million deal with the team this offseason. Spiller is expected to be ready to go by the following week when the Saints host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson will take on the majority of the Saints rushing duties in Spiller’s absence.
