The Facts: Following up on the ongoing story. ... The best-kept secret among NFL media members no longer is, and the rumors regarding a Bryant video that may or may not exist have finally come to light. In the interests of clarity regarding a still-unclear situation, the rumor as it has existed for several months is that the incident (if there was one) happened in the parking lot of a Dallas-area Wal-Mart, and that the footage (if there is any) was created by a surveillance camera owned and operated by Wal-Mart.
Diehards Line:You do notice the all the "ifs" in the above, right? Again, the reports there is a video remain in the realm of rumor. Nobody has reported seeing the video -- although ESPN's Adam Schefter claims he's been chasing the story since last September. It's safe to assume Schefter isn't alone. The fact that nobody has seen the video after all this time is significant. And until we actually see some evidence that there is such a video, people should give Bryant the benefit of the doubt and take the reporting for what it is. And at this point, that would be an unwanted distraction for two parties -- Bryant and the Cowboys -- trying to agree to a new contract.
