The Facts: GM Trent Baalke on Wednesday ended any speculation that Davis’ spot on the 49ers was in doubt. When asked if he envisions Davis on the team for the 2015 season, Baalke answered, “Absolutely.”
Diehards Line:
Davis is scheduled to earn $4.95 million in the final year of his contract. Davis is coming off a season in which he caught just 26 passes for 245 yards. He caught two touchdown passes in the first quarter of the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys and did not get into the end zone the remainder of the season. “It was an off year,” Baalke said at the NFL Scouting Combine. “He realizes (that). The great thing about Vernon, he understands. He’s been in this business long enough and he’s worked hard enough, he understands where his level of play is and he still believes that he can have some great years ahead of him -- as do we. And we look forward to having him a part of those.” Worth noting, after skipping the team's off-season workouts and mandatory mini-camp last year, Davis is expected to take part fully in this year's off-season program, which begins April 6 under new HC Jim Tomsula.
