The Facts: Following up on the ongoing story. ... The Giants have maintained all offseason that they expect to have Wilson on the field when training camp starts next month, but the 2012 first-round pick still needs to get medical clearance for his neck before that can happen. Wilson was able to do some light work with the team during the offseason, but was held out of anything with any risk of contact. Obviously the team can’t hide him from contact once the season gets underway, so the results of a July 21 examination of his surgically repaired neck will loom large for Wilson.
Diehards Line:
Wilson is hopeful that will happen because he likes the direction the Giants have taken their offense under new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. Wilson says that part of the plan is to get him the ball in space in hopes that his speed can make things happen offensively. Wilson also said he’s been doing mental reps while watching the team practice this offseason, but he’ll likely still need some time to put everything together after being out since early last season because of the neck injury. As PFT's Josh Alper notes, with Rashad Jennings on hand, the Giants can give him that time in hopes that they finally start seeing some of what made Wilson a first-round pick in the first place. Fantasy football owners should set expectations at pre-2013 levels.
