The Facts: Not only did Vinatieri have surgery on his right hip in June, HC Jim Caldwell revealed the kicker also had arthroscopic surgery on one of his knees during the offseason. The knee procedure, Caldwell said, was to make certain Vinatieri "wouldn't have any problems' during the season.
Diehards Line:As a result, however, Vinatieri is on of six Colts who will open training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Starters from a year ago in line for PUP are safety Bob Sanders (knee), cornerback Marlin Jackson (knee) and guard Charlie Johnson (shoulder). They'll be joined by defensive tackle Antonio Johnson (knee), wide receiver Sam Giguere (fibula) and Vinatieri. The good news? Most will miss minimal time and all are expected to be ready for the Sept. 13 regular-season opener in Lucas Oil Stadium against Jacksonville.
