Martellus Bennett Signs With Packers
When reports surfaced early Friday indicating Jared Cook's talks with the Packers had broken off and he was set to visit the Bills, Lions and Bears, it seemed a bit odd given the highly-productive postseason by the athletic tight end, who had a team-high-tying 18 receptions for 229 yards and two touchdowns in three games.

So why the sudden lack of interest by Green Bay?

Because Martellus Bennett, that's why.

Yep, the Packers went fully Marty by signing Bennett, who caught 55 passes for 701 yards and seven touchdowns last year playing in New England. He did all that while battling injuries most of the season.

Now he goes from working with Tom Brady to Aaron Rodgers. He could have done worse.

And the Packers don't often make big splashes in free agency, but this is certainly one.

From a fantasy perspective it's hard not to like a player with Bennett’s ability not only as a blocker, but as a receiver -- something often overlooked -- joining Green Bay's offense

In case you haven't been paying attention, Bennett has caught more than 50 passes in each of the past five seasons and had a 90-catch season in 2014. A receiving corps that includes Bennett, Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams, Randall Cobb and emerging youngster Geronimo Allison will be even more difficult to contend with than it has been.

Is he a little flakey? Well, the self-proclaimed "Black Unicorn" is joining his fifth team heading into his 11th season as a pro. But you can't question his productivity and now that he's unshackled from Rob Gronkowski, you can expect to invest considerable draft day capital to land him this summer.
