Gonzalez Limited Again Friday; Still Slated To Play...
According to the Kansas City Star, Tony Gonzalez, nursing a slightly sprained knee, practiced on a limited basis Friday -- much like he did the previous two days. Wide receiver Eddie Kennison (groin) was also limited, but will start.

Getting back to Gonzalez. ... There has been considerable -- but unsubstantiated -- speculation in recent days, hinting that team officials have been less-than-forthcoming when it comes to the star tight end's condition.

And from everything I've learned in ten-plus years in this business, I'm sure they are -- to a degree.

However, it's very difficult to get everybody necessary -- including local reporters who cover the team on a daily basis -- to toe the company line on as high-profile a story as this. ...

I'll continue to keep a close eye on the Chiefs and Gonzalez right up through tomorrow morning's kickoff and update as quickly as possible should his current status change.

In the meantime, I'll toss you the following tidbit, put out by the team's media relations department on Friday afternoon:

"Two years ago TE Tony Gonzalez and LB Donnie Edwards were teammates, co-stars of their own TV show in Kansas City and on-field leaders for the Chiefs. Now, Edwards wears blue, has moved back to Cali and the two are sworn rivals Sundays. After practicing against each other every day for four years in Kansas City, Edwards and Gonzalez should know each other's tendencies, presenting an interesting match-up on the field.

"The history between these two players runs even deeper. As a freshman at California in '94, Gonzalez caught his first career touchdown pass against Edwards and the UCLA Bruins. Eight years and countless TDs later, Gonzalez and Edwards now share the honor of being named AFC Pro Bowlers following standout 2002 seasons. Gonzalez ranked as one of the league's top TEs a year ago recording 63 catches for 773 yards and seven TDs. On the other side of the ball Edwards was a welcomed addition to the Chargers defense, making a team-high 129 tackles and five interceptions. Keep an eye on these two whenever Gonzalez goes out on a pass pattern, Edwards just might be the one chasing him."

Or better yet, chasing and not catching him.
