Competition On: Bradford Is Going To Have To Beat Out Daniel
As Profootballtalk.com's Mike Florio reminded readers, on the first day of the 2015 league year the Eagles and Rams dropped a bomb on the NFL by swapping quarterbacks Nick Foles and Sam Bradford. It was a move that caught fantasy football owners by surprise and altered the fortunes -- and offensive efforts -- of both teams.

This year, it’s possible that the Eagles could unleash another Bradford-related surprise. Indeed, the pieces are in place with the arrival of former Chiefs backup Chase Daniel.

As Florio suggested Wednesday, the contract given to Daniel doesn’t scream “starter,” but that doesn’t mean Daniel won’t win the job.

In fact, NFL Network's Albert Breer advised his Twitter followers the Eagles will be giving Daniel "every chance to wrest the starting job from Bradford.

Breer added that Daniel was "not signed as a backup."

ESPN reports that Daniel’s contract is worth $21 million over three years, with $12 million of it fully guaranteed. That’s $7 million per year, an annual average of more than $10 million per year lower than the two-year, $35 million contract given last week to Sam Bradford.

Remember: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport recently reported that new head coach Doug Pederson views Daniel as more than a QB2. And as NFL.com's Kevin Patra, it's logical that Pederson would have faith in Daniel to run his offense after the duo spent the past three seasons together in K.C, where Daniel backed up Alex Smith.

So if this is a true competition as advertised, Daniel has an edge. If Daniel can translate that familiarity into production, he could end up winning the job.

I'll be watching this one closely in coming weeks. You should too.
