A Team In Flux; Saints Sign Spiller, Trade Stills To Dolphins
The New Orleans Saints continue to shake up their roster adding significant intrigue for fantasy football owners along the way. ... Just days after a shocking trade that sent Jimmy Graham to the Seattle Seahawks, the Saints have agreed to terms with the top free-agent running back remaining on the market, C.J. Spiller.

Meanwhile, receiver Kenny Stills is being shipped to the Miami Dolphins for linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and a third round pick, according to multiple reports.

Spiller will join a Saints backfield that already includes Mark Ingram, who recently re-signed with the team, and Khiry Robinson. Travaris Cadet is also on board, but he wasn't tendered as a restricted free agent and might not return.

But what else is new?

The Saints prefer a crowded backfield. Spiller certainly provides an outside threat to compliment Ingram, who will open the season as their primary between-the-tackles guy.

Spiller, 27, was a free agent for the first time since being selected ninth overall by the Buffalo Bills in 2010. As ESPN.com notes, considered one of the fastest and most athletic running backs in the NFL, Spiller is coming off a pair of disappointing, injury-hampered seasons in which he saw diminished production as both a runner and receiver.

Last season, Spiller missed seven games with a broken collarbone and finished the season averaging 3.8 rushing yards, tying his career low set in 2010. He also set career lows in receptions (19) and receiving yards (125).

Spiller's best season came in 2012, when he gained 1,703 total yards (1,244 rushing and 459 receiving) and scored a career-high eight touchdowns.

Spiller told the New York Daily News in January that he "had [his] best years in the league" under New York Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey, who served as Bills head coach from 2010-2012.

Gailey's spread-style offense allowed the elusive Spiller to excel in the open field. When Doug Marrone took over as Bills coach in 2013 and implemented more of a power-running scheme, Spiller was used on more between-the-tackles runs and his production declined.

Expect Sean Payton to be a bit more creative with Spiller than Marrone was.

For the record, Spiller got a four year, $18 million deal with $9 million guaranteed. ...

Meanwhile, Stills, who turns just 23 in April, provides the Dolphins with a speedster who caught 63 passes for 931 yards and three touchdowns last season in New Orleans.

Acquiring the former fifth-round draft pick on his rookie deal could be a prelude to Miami finally cutting ties with receiver Mike Wallace to re-open cap space.

The Dolphins continue to re-make their roster after cutting a slew of veterans this offseason, signing Ndamukong Suh to a whopping deal and inking tight end Jordan Cameron on Thursday. Miami also still has a transition tag out on tight end Charles Clay and are trying to bring him back.

The swap is bit of a head-scratcher for the Saints who continue to dump offensive talent and takes another weapon away from Drew Brees. And they might not be done.

ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler tweeted on Thursday the Saints are open to trading anybody on their current roster but Brees and Brandin Cooks.
