As Profootballtalk.com's Josh Alper notes, that didn’t stop Vick from getting the nod to start against the Chiefs this weekend and a repeat of that performance might not be enough to shake him from the starting job given how little Smith has done to hold onto it over the course of the season. Still, Vick said he’s identified the issue from last week and how to make things better the next time out.
“I got greedy. I was trying to play like 24-year-old Mike Vick. You have to play with some type of control,” Vick said, via Bob Glauber of Newsday.
Vick, who had two more fumbles that didn’t wind up in Buffalo hands, actually looked as much like the 31 and 32-year-old version of himself (15 turnovers and 11 fumbles in 10 games in 2012, 18 turnovers and 10 fumbles in 13 games in 2011) as he looked like the much younger player we saw in Atlanta. In fact, Vick’s had just two seasons with 10 or more starts when he didn’t average at least one turnover per game.
With that in mind, it’s probably a good bet that the career-long issue with turnovers isn’t going to go away overnight.
