As Hobson reported it, going through a line of some loosening-up moves, Green suddenly stopped, threw down his helmet, took off his shoe, and then threw that down near his helmet in frustration. Head coach Marvin Lewis and some trainers gathered around as the team broke into position drills.
Then he walked to the cart on the sideline and departed for the locker room and an MRI.
Pending the MRI results -- and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport posted to Twitter that Green will see a doctor Thursday to review the results, the Bengals could be faced with a myriad of options that may include shutting him down for a few weeks.
Lewis said the predicted, "We'll see," after practice and offensive coordinator Hue Jackson said all he knew is that his No. 1 receiver wasn't out there.
And until he's told he's not playing, Jackson figures he's playing.
"I never do a game plan based on one guy," Jackson said after practice. "We have more than one guy. We're not going to crash our game plan, we're just going to adapt. As a coordinator you have to adapt. That's the way it goes. You never know what might happen. When we started the Atlanta game I thought he was playing. We've been through this. We're not going to worry about it."
Green had a negative MRI 24 days ago when he left the Atlanta victory on the fifth play of the game after re-aggravating the injury he originally suffered during the Sept. 7 Opening Day victory in Baltimore. It's believed not to be turf toe but some kind of ligament irritation.
In the win over Atlanta, running back Giovani Bernard was their leading receiver with five catches for 79 yards and starting wide receiver Mohamed Sanu and tight end Jermaine Gresham each had three for 84 and 25 yards, respectively. The next two wide receivers behind Sanu, Brandon Tate and Dane Sanzenbacher have combined for eight catches for 116 yards.
Meanwhile, the other starting wide receiver Marvin Jones (ankle) wasn't even on the side rehabbing Wednesday and has practiced once during the regular season. He doesn't appear to be even close to returning this week.
At least Pro Bowl inside linebacker Vontaze Burfict (concussion) returned in the full gear of helmets and shoulder pads. Burfict has missed the last two games.
