Wilson's Career Hanging In The Balance; RB Reportedly Needs A Miracle
Sounds like fantasy football owners will gain some resolution on David Wilson's long-term future sooner than expected. Connor Orr and Jordan Raanan of the Newark Star-Ledger, citing multiple sources, reported on Thursday that the running back, who suffered a "burner" during Tuesday's practice, months after undergoing spinal fusion surgery, is a long shot to return to the field.

One person with knowledge of the running back's medical condition told the reporters that Wilson "needs a miracle."

As the Star-Ledger report pointed out, that differs significantly from the always-sunny viewpoint of Wilson, who tweeted that "everything was fine" Wednesday night. The Giants, however, don't feel the same way.

In the meantime, both sides will wait until Monday's examination for an official determination, although it sounds as if the Giants have come to grips with the seriousness of the condition and the possibility that Wilson's career is over.

Wilson will meet with Dr. Frank Cammisa, his first consultation with Cammisa since the burner. Cammisa, the doctor who performed Wilson’s spinal surgery in January, was not at the Hospital for Special Surgery on Tuesday, when Wilson was put though a battery of tests.

Meanwhile, the Giants did their best to build a stable of running backs behind the 2012 first-round pick in case a setback occurred. They signed Rashad Jennings to start ahead of Peyton Hillis, Michael Cox and rookie Andre Williams, but as NFL.com's Kevin Patra notes, none offer the burst and dynamic ability of Wilson.

The team always viewed Wilson's return this season as a bonus. Now, however, there's a good chance he will never return. The Giants, much like the Green Bay Packers, are one of the NFL's more cautions teams when it comes to clearing players with neck injuries.

We'll be following up as needed, but fantasy owners should follow the Giants' cue and prepare for the worst.
