Fitzpatrick's Inconsistency A Major Problem For Buffalo's Offense
As the Sports Xchange noted this week, Ryan Fitzpatrick's penchant for offsetting TD passes with killer interceptions isn't a new trend. While going 3-11 in his past 14 starts, Fitzpatrick has 22 touchdowns against 24 interceptions, including 12 TD passes and eight picks this season.

One thing that is consistent is head coach Chan Gailey's support for his starting quarterback, so much so that this week Gailey sacked any talk about using backup Tarvaris Jackson, a veteran with 35 NFL starts who was obtained from Seattle in late August.

Regarding Jackson, Gailey painted a picture of a player who isn't ready to handle the Bills' offense.

"He is learning (the system). He cannot get reps," Gailey said. "That is the problem with being the third quarterback. You cannot get reps in practice. There is just no way to get reps. I hate it for him, and I hate it for us. There is just no way to get around it right now. ..."

Meanwhile, WR/QB Brad Smith is slowly being worked into the offense. He had a 35-yard run from the Wildcat formation against San Francisco.

Also of interest. ... Stevie Johnson has caught a pass in 37 consecutive games, tying Marlin Briscoe for seventh-longest streak in team history. However, he's had a quiet season thus far with 21 catches for 234 yards and three scores.

C.J. Spiller still leads the team with 365 yards rushing, but his workload has decreased dramatically following a shoulder/chest injury. He should be closer to 100 percent heading into tomorrow's game at Arizona.

Defense has keyed the Cardinals' 4-1 start, with Arizona allowing just 78 points so far and ranking 11th in total yards allowed. Arizona has already beaten AFC East teams New England (20-18) and Miami (24-21). And if Fitzpatrick's sputtering offense can't run effectively on Arizona's defense, control clock and avoid turnovers, the recipe is in place for another loss.
