Start Em / Sit Em - Week 8 - Sunday Games
By Brad Kruse
In this Start Em / Sit Em column each week, I'm looking to find some fringe players that you might consider starting each week and comment based on their matchups. Early on, I'll base my selection of candidates on where they were with respect to ADP. I'm not going to try to pad my stats by suggestin your start Drew Brees each week, but instead trying to dig deep and find some nuggets for players to avoid or to go after. These are coin flip guys and if I can finish the year at better than 60% I'll consider it a success. My metrics to get the start decision are: QB 20 pts or more, RB, WR or TE need to score 12 pts or more for a successful endorsement. Defense/Special Teams should put in 8 points or more to get those picks right. I'll look at ~4-6 players on each Thursday night's game and ~ 6 players for the rest of the week to get you going. Good Luck this year!

Theo Riddick | RB | DET | ATL | START | Bush has been downgraded to doubtful this week while Riddick has been upgraded to probable. This looks like a good opportunity for Riddick to step in and provide starter level performance. His role will be the pass catching back against a vulnerable defense. |
Tony Romo | QB | DAL | WAS | START | Romo is ranked 11th YTD at QB so far this year. In week 8, however, Washington's defense could help him to a top 6 finish at the QB spot. Start him with confidence |
Jerrick McKinnon | RB | MIN | TB | START | McKinnon has emerged as the new lead back in Minnesota. Tampa Bay's leaky defense awaits in week 8. |
Jordan Reed | TE | WAS | DAL | START | About the only area that Dallas' defense isn't in the top 6-8 for fantasy defenses is against the TE. Dallas is ranked 31st vs the TE. This is a good opportunity for Jordan Reed to put in a strong week. The caution here is Colt McCoy may be the starter. Reed could benefit by being that near range target for McCoy, but the offense could implode as well. |
Pittsburgh D/ST | D/ST | PIT | IND | SIT | Indianapolis has been a tough matchup for opposing defenses. Pitt's a defense many people use to stream with and paid off in week 7. However, look a different direction in week 8. |
Chris Ivory | RB | NYJ | BUF | SIT | Ivory had a great game in week 7. However, Buffalo is ranked second vs the opposing RBs. Ivory still only gets 50-60% of the opportunities from the Jets and typically that does not include the two minute drill. Look for better plays in week 8 than Ivory. |
