Week 8 Quick Hits

By Chad Stapley

Peyton Manning is getting better with age, his 286 passing yard with three TD passes goes to show that Manning is not slowing down anytime soon. Manning has plenty of targets to throw to so this is most likely going to be another record setting season for Manning.

The Broncos added WR Emmanuel Sanders this offseason and he proved to be worth every penny this week. He grabbed all three Manning TD passes to go with nine receptions and 120 receiving yards. Sanders already has 634 receiving yards on the season and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

Ronnie Hillman is giving the Broncos something to ponder about when it comes to who should start at RB. Hillman had another impressive outing grabbing 23 touches for 138 yards. He might be available in your league still and I would definitely start him from here on out if you can grab him.

Against one of the better defenses in the NFL, Jeremy Maclin had the best game of his thus far injury prone career. Maclin grabbed 12 passes for 187 yards and two TDs. Maclin has 632 yards and six TDs on the season, showing when healthy he is an absolute monster.

A couple of old guys led the way for the otherwise pretty young Cardinal roster. Carson Palmer & Larry Fitzgerald absolutely embarrassed the Eagles. Palmer threw for two TDs and 300+ yards, looking like the former pro-bowl Palmer. Fitzgerald snagged seven passes for 160 yards and a TD. These two are really starting to hit a stride where they look unstoppable.

John Brown is a rookie WR for the Cardinals who has single handedly won them two games. Brown caught two monster TDs against the 49ers a few weeks back to seal the game and this week against the Eagles he caught a game winning TD in the 4th quarter. Brown is a speedster with impeccable hands and a great work ethic. Brown is most likely still available and I would grab him in a heartbeat.
Andre Ellington is a stud. The Cardinals should find more ways to get him the ball because he always seems to make something happen.

Emmanuel Sanders might have some competition for best free agent WR acquisition in Golden Tate. Tate has been terrorizing opposing defenses; this week he caught seven passes for 151 yards and a TD. Tate has 55 receptions for 800 yards thus far on the season and has played admirably in his first season with the Lions.

Little used second year RB Theo Riddick was a huge reason why the Lions stole the game from the Falcons. Riddick had 11 touches for 79 yards and a huge TD. Riddick did serious damage catching passes out of the back field. Look for the Lions to get him the ball in more passing situations.

The Falcons might as well throw in the towel because their season is done. How do you blow a 21 point lead? They need to draft nothing but offensive linemen at the rate theirs having been injured the last two seasons.

Even in a loss Austin Davis did things that impressed me. Davis threw for 160 yards with one TD and one INT but the thing that impressed me was that out of 15 completions he hit 10 different WRs. Davis scans the field well and makes the correct throw most of the time. I would love to see what he could do if the Rams had a go to WR.

Jamaal Charles finally had a decent fantasy game running for 73 yards and two TDs, if Charles runs with this type of consistency the Chiefs are going to be a hard team to beat. Ditto for how Alex Smith played. Smith went 24/28 with no turnovers and no TDs. That type of efficiency is going to be tough to beat.
Arian Foster is a man possessed this year; this week in a dismantling of the Titans Foster had 23 touches for 174 yards and two TDs. Foster is the most dominant RB in the NFL this season; if he can stay healthy the Texans could push for a playoff spot.

All Selfies aside, Zach Mettenberger actually had a pretty good first NFL start. Mettenberger went 27/41 with 299 yards to go along with two TDs and one INT. He seemed to get more comfortable as the game continued. The Titans have a bye week and I think you will see some winning football coming from the Titans offense in the weeks to come with the rookie at QB.

The Vikings won a game against the hopeless Buccaneers riding the backs of three impressive rookie performances. Teddy Bridgewater didn’t look outstanding but he made big plays when the Vikings seemed to need them the most; Bridgewater finished with 241 passing yards and one passing TD. Jerick McKinnon had yet another impressive showing as the Vikings featured RB; he ran the ball 16 times for 83 rushing yards. McKinnon is going to be a fun guy to watch as he continues to make strides and learn the offense. Finally, you have the best performance of all coming from a rookie LB/DE. Anthony Barr had an amazing game; he caused a fumble in overtime and returned that very same fumble for the game winning TD. Barr is a stud.

The Bucs should throw in the towel and trade their assets for trade picks. No QB or RB will be able to perform with that offensive line.

The Seahawks defense has a way of keeping Cam Newton in check. I would never start Newton if he is matched against the Seahawks.

Kelvin Benjamin continues to prove that he is the best WR in this year’s rookie class. Has any other team leaned on their rookie WRs as heavily as the Panthers have with Benjamin?

Joe Flacco went from hero to zero in a hurry. Flacco threw seven TD passes over the prior two games and this week against the division rival Bengals Flacco threw two INTs and cost the Ravens a victory.

Take Mohamed Sanu away from the Bengals and they do not beat the Ravens. With all the injuries the Bengals are dealing with at WR they have really had to rely on Sanu heavily and he has answered each week. This week he had seven touches for 152 yards, he is a game breaker.

Lamar Miller is running like a man possessed given another opportunity to be the Dolphins RB. This week Miller had 17 touches for 99 yards, he can run and catch and has really shown a lot of good running thus far. Miller should be a starter on your fantasy team week in and week out.

Dennard Robinson is making the most of his time as the primary RB for the Jaguars. Robinson had 19 touches for 118 yards this week. He has game breaking speed and runs really hard. I would start Robinson every week especially since they are going through the learning curve with rookie QB Blake Bortles.

Allen Robinson is a rookie WR who is really starting to break stride; this week he caught five passes for 82 yards and a TD. Can you imagine what he will be able to do in year two of the Bortles/Robinson show in Jacksonville?

Tom Brady is getting better with age just like Peyton Manning; this week he threw five TD passes over the sorry Bears.

Rob Gronkowski is back, he proved it this week by catching three TD passes and grabbing 149 receiving yards.

The Bears have all the offensive targets in the world but a defense that can’t stop a nose bleed.

Sorry EJ Manuel, but Kyle Orton is clearly the answer at QB for the Bills. Orton threw for 238 yards and four passing TD this week in a beat down of the Jets. Manuel is nothing more than a backup QB at this point.

Sammy Watkins had three receptions for 157 yards and a TD; this is why he was drafted so high.

Michael Vick is an upgrade over Geno Smith at QB for the Jets but not by much. Vick only had one INT to Smiths three but he did so in three quarters as opposed to just one. Smith is a train wreck and might not have much more time in the NFL.

I like what I have seen out of Derek Carr in his rookie season; this week in a close loss to the Browns Carr threw for 328 yards and one TD pass. Carr doesn’t really have a go to WR and his offensive line is awful but I am eager to see what he can do throughout the season and next year.

The Browns should start Johnny Manziel, that offense looks slow and boring with Brian Hoyer running the show.

Ben Roethlisberger proved that he still has plenty of gas in the tank, this week he absolutely destroyed the Colts throwing for 522 yards and six passing TDs. The Steelers offense looks like it is hitting its stride and they are dangerous.

LeVeon Bell continued his dismantling of the NFL; he had 30 touches for 148 yards this week.

Martavis Bryant is a rookie WR to watch for the Steelers; he caught five passes for 85 yards and two TDs this week. He was brought in to be a speedster but he is 6’4 and he has pretty good hands.

When healthy this season, Mark Ingram is playing as good as any RB in the NFL. This week he ran the ball 24 times for 172 yards and a TD in the beat down of the Packers.

Rookie WR Brandin Cooks led all Saints WR in receptions with six for 94 yards and a TD, the rookie also had a four yard rushing TD. Cooks has been a stud since week one.

DeMarco Murray continued his MVP type season in having 23 touches for 219 yards, the Redskins had no answer for him all night. But it was 3rd string QB Colt McCoy that led the Redskins to victory in throwing for 299 yards and making all the right throws when needed. McCoy is a good fit for this offense and if RGIII struggles when he comes back from injury you could see the Redskins revert back to McCoy.
