Fantasy Watch

Week 6 Quick Hits

By Chad Stapley

The Giants had absolutely no answer for LeSean McCoy who ran for 149 yards in a route of the Giants. One good game from McCoy is not enough for me to declare him back but I would have never benched a RB like McCoy in the first place. McCoy will most likely benefit from the Darren Sproles injury given he will get more carries and passes thrown in his direction.

Jordan Matthews continues to impress in his rookie season. The Rookie WR caught four passes for 50 yards but was targeted six times. Matthews is going to be a good WR and a solid fantasy producer in no time.

Ditto for the second year TE Zach Ertz. Ertz caught three passes for 47 yards and an amazing TD reception. Ertz was targeted five times and is really starting to hit his stride.

Taking a few weeks off served Carson Palmer good. Palmer threw for 250 yards with two TDs and no turnovers. The Cardinals are a tough team to beat when Palmer is playing this well. He also has more WR options than he has since his days playing for the Bengals.

Speaking of those WR options for Palmer; is there a more complete WR core, when healthy, than the Cardinals? Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd, & John Brown complement each other exceptionally well. Fitz is your do everything WR, Floyd is your knitty-gritty go over the middle guy and Brown can beat any DB deep at any given time. Brown is the most impressive to me because he is a rookie yet he continues to make strides and show up on the stat sheet. If he is still available in your leagues I suggest your grab him quickly.

Kirk Cousins has quickly diminished his trade value in the last two week. I believe Washington fans are dreaming of the day when RGIII comes back healthy. Cousins threw another three interceptions against the Cardinals costing the Redskins yet another game.

If the Jaguars could ever successfully run the ball against anyone I think Blake Bortles could lead them to a couple victories this season. Bortles did everything he could to keep the Jaguars in the game; he threw for 336 yards with one TD and one INT. He also ran the ball for a team high 38 yards on the ground. When your rookie QB leads the team in rushing with a measly 36 yards you will not win too many ball games. You don’t get to play the Titans every week.

Joe Flacco throwing for five TDs in the first half, almost the first quarter was absolutely ridiculous. It goes to show how truly bad the Buccaneers defense is.

For a few weeks now I have been saying that Mike Glennon is the answer at QB for the Bucs. After yet another awful second half performance I am going to withdraw that statement. Not sure if it is a Tampa Bay thing or a Glennon thing but the Bucs have been absolutely embarrassed in the first half of nearly every game this season.

Another nearly flawless outing for Peyton Manning as he threw for 237 yards and three TDs in the win over the Jets.

Demaryius & Julius Thomas are every opposing defensive coordinators worst nightmare to have to game plan against. The Thomas duo destroyed yet another defense this week. They combined for 14 receptions for 175 yards and three TDs in a closer than expected victory.

Ronnie Hillman looked like a solid RB while playing for the injured Montee Ball. Hillman ran the ball 24 times for 100 yards. If he keeps running the ball like this then Ball will have a teammate to share carries with. Hillman looks like he could make some serious noise on a fantasy team if he continues to start.
You had the chance to win the game and you throw a Pick-6 Geno Smith? Just when Jets fans were starting to think they might be able to crawl back into the game Smith self-destructs and loses the game for them. Smith will not be the starter for the Jets next season.

Jace Amaro finally had a good game. He is a rookie TE out of Texas Tech and he is as athletic as they come. He caught 10 passes for 68 yards and a TD this week. Given the Jets lack of reliable targets Amaro could make some serious noise as he continues to learn the Jets’ offense. He is a guy to keep an eye on.
That is not how you gain the confidence of the fans, Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater looked lost for most of the game and eventually threw three INTs. The Vikings have not had a stable QB for quite some time, the fact that they don’t have their all-pro RB is not going to make things any easier on Bridgewater any time soon.

One rookie from the Vikings to watch is Jerick McKinnon. He has played very limited thus far this season but every time he is in the game you are left thinking this guy could be a star. McKinnon had his first taste of extended action this week and he did not disappoint. McKinnon ended up with 17 touches for 82 yards. I would keep an eye on this guy.

Andrew Luck threw for another 370 yards and three TDs in the narrow victory over the Texans. Is there any defense that can slow down or contain Luck at this point? Start him every week.

TY Hilton has been playing out of his mind this season. He has truly become one of the most consistent WR in the NFL. Luck and Hilton have been clicking better with each week they play together. Hilton caught nine passes for 223 yards and a TD. This was also against a normally stout Texans defense.

The Texans need a QB that can make some noise before staring a 24 point deficit. Ryan Fitzpatrick is not going to take the Texans to the playoffs, it would be a shame to watch JJ Watt try and be the first defensive MVP in years to miss out because his team didn’t make the playoffs due to a lack of a decent QB.

If DeMarco Murray continues to embarrass teams with his play making abilities it’s possible he could be a solid candidate to be the Dark Horse MVP. Murray has absolutely put the Cowboys on his back, without him the Cowboys are most likely looking at a 3-3 record at best not 5-1. Murray had 35 touches for 146 yards and a TD this week in a victory over the defending super bowl champs.
Tony Romo has also been putting up some amazing stats in leading his team to a 5-1 record. Romo threw for 250 yards with two TDs and no turnovers in a narrow victory. Romo has been putting up elite fantasy numbers, I would start him every week especially with his WR core that is better than most people think.
If you don’t know about Terrance Williams by now, you should. He is a second year WR for the Cowboys that has really become a threat every time he touches the ball. Williams caught just two passes this week but it was for 70 yards and one of his catches was the reason the Cowboys were able to come back and win the game. It was most likely one of the better catches of the 2014 season. Williams should be a starter on your fantasy team, especially given the health concerns for Dez Bryant.

Who said Tom Brady was done? Brady threw for 361 yards and four TDs in a victory over the Bills. Start Brady until he starts costing you victories, which I do not see happening too often.

Brandon LaFell has been an amazing offseason acquisition for the Patriots. LaFell proved his worth this week in a narrow victory over the Bills by catching four passes for 97 yards and two TDs. Look for LaFell to continue to have big games with the uncertainty of the Patriots running game.

Two Bills players to keep an eye on as the season continues are Kyle Orton & Scott Chandler. Orton was recently named the Bill starter at QB and in his second week in action threw for 299 yards and two TDs, that’s better than a lot of fantasy starters and he is still learning the offense. Chandler showed to be an early Orton favorite and showed that he can make some noise at the TE position by catching six passes for 105 yards.

Giovani Bernard is a stud, week in and week out he puts up big numbers. This week he ran the ball 18 times for 137 yards and caught four passes for 20 yards. He is going to be a pro-bowler in just his second year.

Ditto for Mohamed Sanu, the second year WR for the Bengals. With injuries to AJ Green & Marvin Jones Sanu was the Bengals go to WR and he did not let the fans down catching ten passes for 120 yards. Sanu is big, fast, and he can catch anything thrown his way. Start him and enjoy the points he gives you.
Anyone on the Panthers want to help poor Cam Newton out? He did everything he could to try and lead the Panthers to victory, eventually ending the game in a tie. Newton threw for 284 yards and two TDs and he ran for 107 yards for another TD. Newton is the real deal and the Panthers have a franchise QB for years to come.

Colin Kaepernick threw for 343 yards and three TD passes without a turnover in a division victory over the Rams. Kaepernick is impossible to game plan against because he has a rocket arm and is as fast as they come.

Rams fans need to give Austin Davis some time to learn the offense and he will be a stud at QB. The thing that impresses me about him so much is his willingness to stay in the pocket and take a big hit while making an accurate throw. The 49ers abused Davis all night and he still kept them in contention to win the game until a fourth quarter INT that led to six for the 49ers. Davis is the real deal.
