Quick Hits: Week 12

Derek Carr is quickly becoming the most impressive rookie QB thus far. This week Carr led the Raiders to a victory over a good Chiefs team. Carr threw for 174 yards with one TD and no turnovers. Once the Raiders get some decent WRs Carr will take this Raiders team in the right direction.

The Raiders have a young RB to work with in LaTavius Murray. Murray ran the ball four times for 112 yards and two TDs in the first half before going down with concussion like syndromes. Murray is fast and instinctive, which is something the Raiders have lacked in the RB department in many years.

Alex Smith & Jamaal Charles played essentially lights out and still could not lead their team to victory. Smith threw for 234 yards with two TDs and no INTs and Charles had 23 touches for 124 yards with a TD. The main issue with the Chiefs is that they also have no one at WR; they have not had a WR catch a TD pass this season.

Brian Hoyer looked awful for about 99% of the game against the Falcons and he threw three INTs, which is no way to keep rookie QB Johnny Manziel off your back.

Isaiah Crowell & Terrance West looked more than capable of handing the RB duties for the recently released Ben Tate. The duo combined for 26 carries and 150 yards to go with two rushing TDs; look for these guys to get the ball more and more each week as the playoffs get closer and the Browns are still in contention.

Josh Gordon looked like he has been playing all season; in his first start he caught eight passes for 120 yards. This guy is a monster.

Zach Mettenberger is clearly the answer at QB for the Titans. The rookie QB has played better and better each week and he is doing so with one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. The rookie threw for 345 yards with two TDs and one INT; he showed the ability to consistently move the chains and run the offense with competence.

Delanie Walker has never been the #1 TE for a team until the Titans added him last season. Walker responded by catching his most TDs in a season for his career by grabbing six; he also had the most receptions and receiving yards in a season last season. This season Walker already has four TD catches and is starting to develop a nice relationship with rookie QB Mettenberger. Walker caught five passes for 155 yards this week and he should continue to progress as Mettenberger learns the offense.

It is a scary though if you are an Eagles fan and you have to live with the fact that Mark Sanchez is your starting QB. In Sanchez first start he dazzled and threw for two TD passes and no turnovers against the helpless Panthers. In the three games since then he has thrown five TDs and six INTs; four INTs in the last two games. The next three games for the Eagles: Cowboys, Seahawks, and Cowboys.

The Lions offense looks lost as of lately. Matthew Stafford cant throw a TD pass. Calvin Johnson still looks injured or is not trying 100% every play. Reggie Bush is always hurt; mainly because the offensive line is so awful.

Tom Brady threw for another 349 yards and two TDs, absolutely destroying the Lions secondary all game. At this point I am not sure there is a defense in the NFL that can slow the Patriots down.

Legarrette Blount strolls in off the streets and signs a modest two-year deal only to turn around and start for the Patriots and run for 78 yards and two TDs. Is anyone who lines up at RB for the Patriots destined to have a huge fantasy game?

Two other pickups the Patriots made that are paying huge dividends are the additions of Tim Wright & Brandon LaFell. Wright was added via trade and caught two TD passes this week. LaFell was a FA acquisition that is quickly becoming Tom Brady’s favorite target. LaFell is on pace to obliterate all of his personal best in every statistical category.

Aaron Rodgers is playing lights out. Add another 209 yards passing with two TDs and no turnovers to his resume. Rodgers and this Packers offense is a scary thing to watch.

Eddie Lacy proved his is still a monster of a RB. This week the Vikings had no answer for Lacy as he rushed the ball 25 times for 125 yards and a TD. Lacy is a fantasy stud.

Teddy Bridgewater is going to be good in a couple of years. When you watch him play there are series where he looks like a seasoned vet and he makes all the correct throws. Then there are series where he makes three terrible throws in a row that leave you thinking there is no chance this kid will succeed in the NFL. Give Bridgewater a true #1 WR and a couple of offensive lineman and the Vikings will surprise some people next season.

Blake Bortles seems to be going the wrong way. In his first couple of starts you saw a lot of good things with some bad things. As of lately you see a lot of bad things sprinkled with very few good things. That could very well be because the Jaguars offensive line is a joke but they do have a lot of young good WR talent to build around.

Andrew Luck & TY Hilton is easily the best QB/WR duo in the NFL. Luck threw for 253 yards and one TD in an easy win over the Jaguars. 122 of those yards were to Hilton who also caught Lucks only TD pass of the game. These guys are a ton of fun to watch and always contribute healthily to the fantasy world.

Giovani Bernard & Jeremy Hill is a fun young RB duo to watch. Both has the ability to carry the every RB load and each is special in their own way. The duo combined for 35 carries and 132 yards with one TD.

Add in a young set of WRs in AJ Green & Mohamed Sanu and the Bengals have some legit talent on offensive if Andy Dalton could ever play with some sort of consistency. Green caught 12 passes for 121 yards and Sanu caught five passes and a TD.

Plain and simple the Texans need to draft a QB this upcoming draft. Nothing they have on their roster is going to win them championships and they have a championship level defense just going to waste.

Ditto what I said above for the Bucs, they do not have a QB on their roster that is any decent. They have good young offensive talent at RB and WR just no one to lead the offense.

Matt Forte proves week in and week out he is one of the best RBs in the NFL. No matter if the Bears are winning by 14 or down by 30 Forte always produces. Forte added two TDs to his resume for this season in an easy win over the Bucs.

How bad do the Cardinals wish they had Carson Palmer right about now? With Drew Stanton at QB the Cardinals offense fell apart against the Seahawks. They could not run nor pass the ball, which does not bode well for the Cardinals for the playoffs.

Russell Wilson had his most efficient game of football this season against the best team in football. Wilson went 17/22 for 200+ yards with one TD and no turnovers. That is the type of football that wins the super bowl.

You never know what you are going to get with Shaun Hill at QB for the Rams but it is interesting to see second year WR Stedman Bailey starting to produce more consistently. Bailey had seven catches for 89 yards and a TD outplaying his West Virginian teammate Tavon Austin who was drafted several rounds before him. Just in case you didn’t know it was Bailey who had better stats throughout his career at West Virginia not Austin.

The Chargers should have two main goals when they have the ball on offense. Get Ryan Matthews the ball and let him run first and foremost; Matthews ran the ball 12 times for 105 yards and a TD. Or you can throw the ball to Keenan Allen who caught six passes for 104 yards and a TD. They are the best two playmakers the Chargers have.

Ryan Tannehill is becoming a fantasy star right in front of our eyes. This week Tannehill went toe to toe with Peyton Manning and almost lead his team to a come from behind victory. Tannehill threw for 228 yards with three TDs and one INT and Manning threw for 250+ yards with four TDs and no turnovers. Tannehill continues to play better and better and is really turning into one of the better QBs from his draft class.

Jarvis Landry did it again. The rookie WR out of LSU caught seven passes and two TD passes proving that he deserves to be talked about amongst best rookie WRs this year. This guy is turning into a monster.

Demaryius Thomas proved he is unstoppable in the red-zone catching 10 passes for 87 yards and three TDs. Start him every week.

Is it me or does Anquan Boldin just not seem to age? This week Boldin added another nine catches and 137 yards with a TD to his resume. Boldin continues to thrive as the 49ers go-to WR.

Tony Romo is playing out of his mind right now. This week he threw for another four TDs and no turnovers in a closer than expected win over the Giants. Two of those TDs went to Dez Bryant who is darn near impossible to defend.

No one really knew what they were to expect of Odell Beckham Jr. when this season started because he was injured. Well Beckham followed his amazing game last week with a 10 catch 146 yards and two TD performances this week. This guy is already pro-bowl caliber.

The poor Jets are turning the ball back over to Geno Smith after Mike Vick got embarrassed by the Bills 38-3. The Jets just need to give up and draft a new QB already.

The Ravens offensive line is playing incredibly well right now. So well that journeyman RB Justin Forsett was able to run the ball 22 times for 182 yards and two TDs against the Saints. The Saints do have a really bad defense but Forsett is no more than a situational RB on most NFL rosters.

Are the Saints really going to win the NFC South with a losing record? Drew Brees and that offense can score against anyone but their defense could not stop a runny nose. Good thing for the Saints is that their division is awful this season so they could very well be in the playoffs with a losing record.
