TheHunterReport DFS Week 19 2016

By Dave Hunter
Dave Hunter I guess I pegged Odell Beckham, Jr. wrong as being the best performing WR during Wildcard Weekend, huh? Sometimes staying with the obvious in Antonio Brown just serves your lineup best, so getting cute can hurt you at times – just like punching a wall.

With the NFL slate being whittled away due to the regular season ending, you’ll see that my piece is altered some. I will only be listing the Top Level and Value plays at each position, while only adding Mid-Range choices when appropriate. As always, I’m using DraftKings.com salaries for reference.

Let’s get to it!

QUARTERBACK

Top Level

Tom Brady, NE vs. Houston Texans ($7,600) – Is anyone really paying attention to the matchup here? This is the sort of deal-io where matchup truly doesn’t matter. I really don’t see the Texans secondary shutting down Brady and the passing game. Do you? Lock him in, I say, and at $7.6K to boot – that’s $600 less than Aaron Rodgers. Badabing! I see Brady and Rodgers putting up very similar totals, so why not save the dough where you can?

Other choices: Aaron Rodgers, GB @ Dallas Cowboys ($7,600)

Mid-Range

Russell Wilson, SEA @ Atlanta Falcons ($6,900) – The price and matchup for Wilson is attractive, with the Falcons secondary having issue keeping clubs out of the end zone through the air. I like Wilson to take advantage with his legs too. I have a difficult time not paying up this week for Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, but if you’re looking to cut salary for a middling QB than Wilson is it. I’m not that into Matt Ryan this week, if you can believe that. I won’t be surprised to see a flop of a game from Ryan.

Other choices: None

Value

Dak Prescott, DAL vs. Green Bay Packers ($6,000) – Prescott is the value play at QB in my mind. He’s given owners 18.8 FPPG at a relative bargain for the year. I see Prescott as a cash and GPP play. I’m looking at Wilson tossing some decent pass plays out of the backfield towards Ezekiel Elliott, which will certainly pad Prescott’s numbers. Plus, let’s not forget about the matchup even if Eli Manning couldn’t take succeed last week.

Other choices: Alex Smith, KC vs. Pittsburgh Steelers ($5,400)

RUNNING BACK

Top Level

Le'Veon Bell, PIT @ Kansas City Chiefs ($10,500) – Bell jumps up $200 from last week and deservedly so; however, $10.5 K is a boatload to spend on one player. Last week I was all-in. What about this week, you ask? In the right spot, I can see spending the bucks on Bell for GPP play. I have to say that he’s almost a must-play for cash lineups though. Something to think about, but I wouldn’t fault you for shying away from Bell and maybe turning to Ezekiel Elliott for $2K less.

Other choices: Ezekiel Elliott, DAL vs. Green Bay Packers ($8,500)

Mid-Range

Thomas Rawls, SEA @ Atlanta Falcons ($6,900) – I like Rawls a bunch this week, although my expectations are toned down a tad. Meaning: Rawls won’t do as well as last week. Plus, I’m thinking Rawls is just a cash play with his ownership percentage likely climbing through the roof. Are you catchin’ my drift? I want to stay away in GPP play, although I’m not sure we can really do that considering the remaining options at RB this week. Tough call, but I’ll probably only have one GPP lineup with Rawls in there.

Other choices: LeGarrette Blount, NE vs. Houston Texans ($5,800); Spencer Ware, KC vs. Pittsburgh Steelers ($5,200)

Value

Charcandrick West, KC vs. Pittsburgh Steelers ($3,400) – Spencer Ware is supposed to be ready to go this week, although there is slight concern regarding injury. But maybe there’s the off chance that West gets a few more touches, does just a smidge more via yardage and even finds the end zone facing the Steelers. West is certainly worth a gamble at this price, don’t you think? I dig West for some GPP exposure.

Other choices: None

WIDE RECEIVER

Top Level

Antonio Brown, PIT @ Kansas City Chiefs ($9,600) – Brown is the chalk-play at WR this week but we all know that by now. His price tag leaves has me scratching my head a bit. It’s not that Brown doesn’t deserve this price, it’s whether I want to commit to him or not even as a cash chalk-play. I fear the Steelers playing away from Pittsburgh with their rough stretch, so that might keep me from using Brown in GPP play. Well, probably not.

Other choices: Julio Jones, ATL vs. Seattle Seahawks ($8,400); Doug Baldwin, SEA @ Atlanta Falcons ($8,100)

Mid-Range

Julian Edelman, NE vs. Houston Texans ($6,800) – There are plenty of good WR to choose from this week, so WR is a slot that I’m going to be a bit more flexible at when building my lineups. I’m more bullish at QB and RB. Edelman, however, certainly is line to benefit from Tom Brady’s passes. The price is very right for me, loving the below sub-$7K tag. Look for Edelman to get many targets, even with the Texans secondary honing in on him all game long.

Other choices: Davante Adams, GB @ Dallas Cowboys ($7,000); Dez Bryant, DAL vs. Green Bay Packers ($6,600)

Value

Tyreek Hill, KC vs. Pittsburgh Steelers ($5,500) – Other than Travis Kelce at TE, who are the Chiefs going to throw to? Jeremy Maclin? Umm, maybe, but my money is on Hill. Plus, you’ve got to love his game-breaking talent and how he’s been developed this season into a potential superstar player for years to come. The price is definitely right and I can see using Hill in both cash and GPP lineups.

Other choices: Cole Beasley, DAL vs. Green Bay Packers ($5,000)

TIGHT END

Top Level

Travis Kelce, KC vs. Pittsburgh Steelers ($6,100)

Value

Jared Cook, GB @ Dallas Cowboys ($3,900)

Jason Witten, DAL vs. Green Bay Packers ($3,500)
