Startem sitem Week 1 2022

In this Start Em / Sit Em column each week, I'm looking to find some fringe players that you might consider starting each week and comment based on their matchups. Early on, I'll base my selection of candidates on where they were with respect to ADP. I'm not going to try to pad my stats by suggesting your start Josh Allen each week, but instead trying to dig deep and find some nuggets for players to avoid or to go after. These are coin flip guys and if I can finish the year at better than 60% I'll consider it a success. My metrics to get the start decision are: QB 20 pts or more, RB, WR or TE need to score 12 pts or more for a successful endorsement. Defense/Special Teams should put in 8 points or more to get those picks right. I'll look at ~3 players on each Thursday night's game and ~ 6 players for the rest of the week to get you going.

Player Pos Team Opp Start / Sit Comment
Russell Wilson QB DEN SEA START This is potentially the ultimate revenge game to show what happens when Russ Cooks.
Trey Lance QB SF CHI START Lance offers great rushing upside in addition to a strong arm that can take advantage of his targets.
Jameis Winston QB NO ATL START Wnston gets a chance to open the year as a starter again. He was doing fine last year until the injury. His weapons are much improved this year. I like his chances to give you a week 1 startable number.
Michael Carter RB NYJ BAL START Carter seems in line for at least half the action this year. It's not a great matchup, but with the ppr posibilities of a negative game script, I'd roll with Carter as a late round draft pick you can roll out as a starter.
James Robinson RB JAC WAS SIT Robinson is supposed to be back and recovered from his achilles injury, but the smart money has faded RBs with coming off achilles injuries.
Dallas Goedert TE PHI DET START Goedert is caught up in a bit of a crowded list of targets for what was a low volume pass attack last year. Expect the Eagles to pass a lot more this year and Goedert to be one of the beneficiaries.
Isaiah McKenzie WR BUF LAR START If McKenzie doesn't go, then flip this to Jamison Crowder. The slot receiver for the Bills has been very successful the last few years and McKenzie is coming a great camp.
Brandon Aiyuk WR SF CHI START Aiyuk is said to have taken a big jump from year 2 to year 3 and appears to be Lance's go to receiver. The Bears are in a rebuild so he could show case his new skills in week 1.
