In this Start Em / Sit Em column each week, I'm looking to find some fringe players that you might consider starting each week and comment based on their matchups. Early on, I'll base my selection of candidates on where they were with respect to ADP. I'm not going to try to pad my stats by suggesting your start Josh Allen each week, but instead trying to dig deep and find some nuggets for players to avoid or to go after. These are coin flip guys and if I can finish the year at better than 60% I'll consider it a success. My metrics to get the start decision are: QB 20 pts or more, RB, WR or TE need to score 12 pts or more for a successful endorsement. Defense/Special Teams should put in 8 points or more to get those picks right. I'll look at ~3 players on each Thursday night's game and ~ 6 players for the rest of the week to get you going.

Player Pos Team Opp Start / Sit Comment
Jacoby Brissett QB CLE ATL START QB is becoming a very thing position - I don't recall every seeing waiver wires so barren of options at the normally deep position. But, if you're streaming, Brissett has a good match and he's found chemistry with Amari Cooper
Trevor Lawrence QB JAC PHI SIT QB is a wasteland out there and Lawrence has looked sharp to start this season. But, Philadelphia's a defense you'd like to avoid after they made both Kirk Cousins and Carson Wentz get destroyed wrt fantasy scoring.
Devin Singletary RB BUF BAL START Baltimore has been vulnerable to RB scoring. Singletary leads this 3 headed committee - try him in this matchup
Khalil Herbert RB CHI NYG START Herbert looks like he'll get the start in relief of injured Montgomery. Herbert has looked great - use him in this starting opportunity.
Jamaal Williams RB DET SEA START A great matchup for Williams who will move into lead RB duties for Detroit with Swift out this week.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire RB KC TB SIT RB is a tough position and I won't blame you if you don't have anyone better, but CEH seems to be scoring fantasy points with smoke and mirrors. His snaps are low and Tampa is brutal vs opposing RBs. McKinnon seems entrenched as the 3rd down back so CEH needs to score TDs to deliver in fantasy.
Tyler Conklin TE NYJ PIT START There's some risk here despite Conklin's first three weeks. The QB switch could shift targets and even allow Zach Wilson to run the ball some and reduce targets across the board. But, for now, let's assume Conklin still is a decent piece in this offense, he gets a PIT defense that is vulnerable to opposing TEs.
DJ Moore WR CAR ARI SIT It's hard to sit a talent like DJ Moore, but Arizona held Devante Adams to 2 rec 12 yds and a TD and Cooper Kupp to 4 rec 44 yds (he also got a 20 yd rushing TD). Their top corner is beginning to feel like a shutdown CB and Moore isn't playing well enough to beat that kind of coverage. It's possible, he's not playing well enough to warrant that type of coverage which could put him in an easier matchup - that's the risk.
