Recapping the Injuries week 14 2018

By Armando Marsal
Armando Marsal Unfortunately, injuries are part of Football and pretty much every week, players go down. This week was no different. At times, some of the injuries are minor, while at others it can impact a player for multiple weeks, and even for the entire season.

Fantasy owners who lost players that are expected to miss significant time, adjustments need to be made, and the waiver wire will be your best friend.

With that said, let’s take a look at some of this week’s injuries and the impact of the injury.

LeSean McCoy – Bills: McCoy left Sunday’s game against the Jets with a hamstring injury and was unable to return. He underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed a hamstring strain and he is listed as day-to-day. For now he has to be considered highly questionable for Week 15. If he cannot give it a go, Chris Ivory is the next man up.

Austin Ekeler – Chargers: Ekeler suffered a stinger late in Sunday’s game against the Bengals. At this time he is considered doubtful to suit up for Thursday night’s game against the Chiefs. Melvin Gordon is also dealing with an MCL injury, so if he cannot play either, Justin Jackson could be in for a heavy workload. Fantasy owners should keep a close eye on this backfield situation.

Jonnu Smith – Titans: Smith exited Thursday night’s game against the Jaguars with a knee injury and never returned. He was diagnosed with an MCL injury and will miss the remainder of the season. Anthony Firkser could operate as the Titans No. 1 TE moving forward.

Jordan Reed – Redskins: Reed left Sunday’s game with a foot injury and never returned. After further tests, it appears that he is dealing with a toe sprain and although it does not appear to be serious, the team is considering shutting him down for the season. We should know more regarding his status throughout the week, but if you own him and were depending on him for your fantasy playoffs, it would be wise to add someone off of waivers. Vernon Davis would likely work as the Redskins top tight end with Reed on the sidelines.

Quick Notes

Lamar Jackson suffered an ankle injury towards the end of Sunday’s game, but X-Rays came back negative. The injury does not appear to be serious and he missed just two snaps.

Tyreek Hill played through a heel injury and was seen with a noticeable limp. Test revealed that the injury was not severe, but Hill did come out and say that the injury was bad and he was in pain. The Chiefs are on a short week, so this is a situation worth monitoring. He did not practice on Monday.

Ben Roethlisberger missed most of the second half after sustaining a rib injury in the second quarter. He was on the sidelines until the fourth quarter when the Raiders took the lead. This is a situation worth keeping a close eye on as the Steelers host the Patriots this weekend, which is a big game, but the good news is that Big Ben was able to play through the injury.

Spencer Ware missed multiple series last week after sustaining shoulder and hamstring injuries, but ultimately played through them. He was absent from Monday’s practice, but is expected to be ready for Week 15 against the Chargers. Damien Williams would be the next man up should Ware be unable to give it a go.

Ryan Tannehill suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s wild win over the Patriots, but was able to play through it. He had a noticeable limp, however, with the Dolphins playoff hopes still alive, he will likely suit up this week even at less than 100 percent.
