Quick hits week 2 2017

By Chad Stapley
Chad Stapley Alex Smith finally looked and played like he didn’t care about the critics, and it was a great look on him. Smith finished with 368 passing yards and four TDs and he beat the Patriots on opening day. If this play continues Smith will be a sure fire QB1 who should start on any fantasy football team.

What an impression Kareem Hunt left on America by running the ball 17 times for 148 yards and a TD to go with his 98 receiving yards and two more TDs. Hunt turned into the hottest fantasy football commodity overnight.

Tyreek Hill picked up where he left off last season, with defenders trailing him as he waltzes into the end zone for another TD. Hill is a starter in any type of fantasy football league.

The sole bright spot for the Patriots was Mike Gillislee rushing 15 times for 45 yards and three TDs. He is easily taking over the goal line role and looks impressive in it. He looks like a nice FLEX option.

Jermaine Kearse could be in for his most productive year yet with the Jets, seeing as he is their #1 WR. He won’t win many games but he is nice FLEX option or WR3 for fantasy teams.

The Bills will live and die going through LeSean McCoy as the all world RB is a monster and a constant fantasy football scorer. McCoy caught five passes for 49 yards to go with his 110 rushing yards.

Charles Clay could be a sneaky good TE to play as your starter.

Matt Ryan and the Falcons had a rough opening night. He ended up throwing for 321 yards and a TD although the bulk of those yards and the TD came on one play. They should be able to pick up the slack and regain last seasons’ form. Same goes for DeVonta Freeman & Julio Jones who had lackluster openers as well.

It seems like the Bears have a new rookie sensation at RB each year. This year it is Tarik Cohen who exposed the Falcons defense by running the ball five times for 66 yards and catching eight passes for 47 yards and a TD. Cohen was another hot commodity on the waiver wire this week.

The duo of Buck Allen & Terrance West for Baltimore could be a deadly force to try and stop. In week one they carried the ball 40 times for 151 yards and a TD. Both offer some fantasy potential and if one were to get hurt the other would instantly be a RB1 on any team.

Stay away from Bengals RBs, it looks like the trio of Joe Mixon, Jeremy Hill, & Giovani Bernard are going to split carries until someone emerges as the leader. All three had duds in the first game with Bernard looking far and away like the most capable as of now.

Antonio Brown just seems to always find a way to get open. He should be a starter on any fantasy football team without question. This week he caught 11 passes for 182 yards and was the biggest reason the Steelers left Cleveland with a victory.

Is Jesse James becoming Big Bens favorite end zone target? It seems that way as he caught two TDs in a week one game. He could be a sneaky good TE1 to score you quick easy points.

DeShone Kizer for the most part looked impressive. He stares down his WRs a bit too much and he holds the ball for a second too long but those are things that can be fixed. Kizer finished his first NFL game throwing for 222 yards with a TD and an INT. He could be a nice bench player or a starter if you play in a 2QB league.

Kerwynn Williams & Andre Ellington are two RBs to watch. The Cardinals have to start one of them and they both have some interesting fantasy football potential.

The Lions looked like a force with Matthew Stafford hurling four TD passes against an above average Cardinals defense.

Two of those Stafford TD passes went to rookie sensation WR Kenny Golladay. It seems like all he does his score TDs, if you can start him in your fantasy leagues and sit back and watch him lead you to some victories.

The man of the week in Jacksonville was Leonard Fournette, the rookie RB ran all over the Texans defense for the likes of 100 yards and a TD to go with 24 receiving yards. He looks like the real deal at RB and should be started in any fantasy league.

Allen Hurns & Marquise Lee are two WRs to watch with the injury to Allen Robinson. Hurns looks like the guy they will be leaning on and he could score some major fantasy football points.

The Texans turned the QB job over to rookie QB Deshaun Watson, who is an intriguing fantasy QB with the ability to score by throwing and running. He is more of a player to sit on your bench to see how he progresses but he can be a QB1 in no time.

Derek Carr seemed to be in midseason form throwing for 262 yards and two TDs as the Raiders easily beat the Titans on the road.

The Raiders have to love getting 18 carries and 76 yards out of veteran Marshawn Lynch. Lynch doesn’t seem like he missed a beat and is still a nice RB1 to start on any fantasy roster.

Year two for Carson Wentz looks like it will be a good one. The QB led the Eagles to a victory by throwing for 307 yards and two TDs.

Nelson Agholor looks like he might have finally turned the corner catching six passes for 86 yards and a TD. He could be a nice FLEX option.

Jared Goff looked confident and was fun to watch as the Colts got a beat down from the Rams. Goff threw for 306 yards and a TD.

Cooper Kupp is going to score a lot of TDs. He caught his first NFL TD and also led the Rams in yards with 76. He is already a starter at WR for most fantasy leagues.

The Packers offense looked scary and TY Montgomery was a major force behind the offense. He ran for 54 yards and added 39 receiving yards. Those numbers should continue to improve as the season goes on.

Ezekiel Elliott is easily the best RB in the NFL and he proved his worth in week one. Elliott carried the ball 24 times for 104 yards and he added 36 receiving yards. His legal problems should make you carry an extra RB on your roster in case a suspension is reinstated.

Of all the Saints RBs, Mark Ingram, looked like he had the most to offer and he should be the starter. None of the RBs could run against the Vikings defense but Ingram turned five receptions into 54 receiving yards. Look for him to get more and more looks.

Dalvin Cook is as good as advertised and he made a ton of great plays. Cook ran for 127 yards and added 10 yards receiving. Cook is easily a RB1 already and should be a starter on your fantasy teams.

Stefon Diggs & Adam Thielen have quickly became a nice WR duo combining to catch 16 passes for 250 yards and two TDs to absolutely destroy the Saints defense.

Philip Rivers had a rough first half but ended up throwing three TDs, still proving he is one of the better QBs in the league and fantasy football.
