LaMichael James Could Use a Change of Scenery

LaMichael James has almost done nothing as a San Francisco 49er thus far, so it is not surprising to hear his name floating around as trade bait. It is not the James does not possess the skill to perform at the professional level; he is just simply stuck on a roster with better options for running the ball then he presents. Not only do the 49ers have a staple for consistency at the RB position in Frank Gore (who is always a nice addition to any fantasy football team) but they also have the best running QB in the NFL in Colin Kaepernick. James is not even the 3rd option at running the ball for the team as that role is delegated to Kendall Hunter (when healthy) and their previous short yardage RB was Anthony Dixon, who has since moved on to Buffalo. The main issue we see here is that James offers the same type of running aspect to the 49ers offense that Hunter offers. When the 49ers originally drafted him they had hoped he would bring a spark plug to the return game, the run game, and the pass game (via screen passes and such), thus far James has been mediocre at best. In all honesty, it is one of those rare cases where he just got drafted to the wrong team because I truly think that James could shine on a team like the Saints, Packers, Lions, Broncos, or Patriots. I handpicked the teams that I think have the best QB’s especially when it comes to the RB check down game. Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady are amongst the best of the best when it comes down to knowing when to check down to your RB at the precise time. Brees did it year after year with the likes of Ladainian Tomlinson & Darren Sproles, the Saints just conveniently traded away Sproles and could be in the market for a quick little scat back like James.  Manning did it with a multiple amount of different RBs, ditto Brady. The 49ers love to stack draft picks and they seem to be the best at doing so, I can see them letting James go for a 5th round pick and using that pick in a package to move up in the 1st round to draft a WR they really like. James can be a nice commodity for an already established team to pick up as an extra weapon. He can catch, run, and return he just was not able to put all three of those things together in San Francisco.
