Digging In The Crates (DraftKings)

Week 8 Main Slate (10 Games)

Quarterbacks

C.J. Beathard @ Cardinals ($4,900)

C.J. Beathard was fantastic week 6 against a dreadful Arizona Cardinals team. He completed 34-of-54 passes for 349 yards and two touchdowns. Beathard will get the Cardinals again week 8 in a divisional road game. The Niners had their hands full with the Rams week 7 but this is a good spot for him to bounce back. Temper your expectations because Joe Montana isn’t entering the building but he’s a fine salary saver and cash game play. Pair him with his old college roommate George Kittle if you’re feeling frisky.

Eli Manning vs. Redskins ($4,900)

The end is almost near it would seem for two-time Super Bowl winner Eli Manning and it’s probably justified. That said, he has way too much talent surrounding him to continue to play the way he has. He’ll get a middle of the road Redskins pass defense this week in a home divisional matchup. Week 7 he threw for 399 and a touchdown on the road at Atlanta where he generated 23.6 fantasy points. Evans Engram is returning and that could help the Giants offense out tremendously. Odell Beckham has a chance to light up foe Josh Norman which will make a sneaky contrarian stack that could pay off. Manning is playing for his job.

Running backs

Phillip Lindsay @ Chiefs ($5,200)

Royce Freeman will not be playing in week 8 against the Chiefs, leaving Phillip Lindsay to shoulder the load in a back field that he has primarily owned. Lindsay is just about a lock for 20 touches against a bottom of the barrel Chiefs run defense that is allowing 118 yards a game. Lindsay is averaging 5.8 yards per carry. He’ll get some offensive rookie of the year votes at this point and will be thrusted into a volume role. He can be used in tournaments or cash games based on volume in a game that the Broncos will be playing catch up.

Jalen Richard vs. Colts ($4,200)

The Raiders are an absolute dumpster fire and now with Marshawn Lynch placed on injured reserve it should open up opportunities for Jalen Richard. Doug Martin is allegedly going to be the starter but that means nothing. Richard has caught 22-of-26 targets over the last four weeks and that number could increase with Lynch sidelined and Amari Cooper out of the equation. Richard has never had more than nine carries in a game over his three year career. The Colts are allowing the second most receptions to running backs in 2018. Richard may be my favorite “sleeper” week eight and a Crate lock for certain. His ownership wont be high making him a fantastic tournament play.

Wide Receivers

Larry Fitzgerald vs. 49ers ($4,400)

It is hard to believe that Larry Fitzgerald through week 7 as been abysmal in the Arizona Cardinals offense. With Mike McCoy out and Byron Leftwich in, things should be trending up for Fitz. He’ll get a 49ers pass defense that has been near the bottom week eight and he’ll look to build off of back to back eight target -weeks. His price is just too cheap and he could win someone a tournament based on the future hall of famer he is any given sunday. I’ll say it right here, Larry Fitzgerald goes wild week eight.

Jordy Nelson vs. Colts ($4,700)

Out goes Amari Cooper and in comes Jordy Nelson as the Raiders number one wide receiver. He has been way too inconsistent to use in cash games but his ceiling is through the roof. He’ll get a middle of the road Colts secondary in a game Las Vegas projects to be close and high scoring. Someone is going to eat on this Raiders offense and I think it will be Jalen Richard or Jordy Nelson. The touches are available in Oakland and Nelson will make a fantastic tournament play that no one will have.

Tight End

Vance McDonald vs. Browns ($3,700)

The sea of tight end mediocrity deepens and it is a tough position to project points based on how thin the talent level is. I’ll go right back to the Vance McDonald well who caught 7-of-8 passes week 7 against the Bengals and appears to be Ben Roethlisberger’s security blanket. Big Vance is having a career season in Pittsburgh. The Steelers are more than a touchdown favorite in a week 8 divisional matchup against an atrocious Browns pass defense. Big Vance can be used in tournaments and cash games at his price point.

O.J. Howard @ Bengals ($3,900)

We are starting to see what a freak of an athlete O.J. Howard is and it’s a beautiful thing in a not so pretty league wide position. Howard caught 5-of-9 targets week 7 against the Browns and was only behind Mike Evans in catches, yards and targets. The Bengals have given up the third most receiving yards to tight ends so far this season which regardless of price makes Howard a top-5 play at the position. The Bucs/Bengals game projects to be a close, shoot out and as daily fantasy players we are going to want exposure to this one. Howard can be used in cash games and tournaments.

Defense/Special teams

Steelers ($2,300) vs. Browns

The Browns are 12th in turnovers so far this season and Baker Mayfield has been sacked 5 times in three straight games. I love the price and I love the Steelers to go off against the leagues worst offensive line.
