Digging In The Crates - Daily 2016 week 6

By Justin Lonero
Justin Lonero This is a weekly DFS article that strictly targets cheap, sneaky, DFS plays for the week. As DFS players it is important that we can identify these cheap plays, so that we can spend, or "pay up" elsewhere. Some of the cheapest plays become core plays and differentiators in our weekly lineups.

Quarterbacks

Tyrod Taylor vs. 49ers ($5,300)
The San Francisco 49ers have only allowed 222 yds/game this season, but have given up ten passing touchdowns in five games. Tyrod Taylor without Sammy Watkins has won three games in a row for the Buffalo Bills. Lets face it the Bills want to run the ball successfully and play solid defense. Taylor is priced near the bottom again this week in a solid matchup. Pairing Taylor with LeSean McCoy ca be justified at this point because high volume usage. Or, as we like to say " naked" play Tyrod Taylor alone. He's averaged over 20 fantasy points a game at home, and only thrown two interceptions. I will have exposure to Taylor in cash games and tournaments. He is a safe option week six.

Alex Smith @ Oakland ($5,700)
Alex Smith has never been a quarterback to wow us, or have us yearning to see more of him. He has also never really had us feel repulsive about playing him. Smith is averaging 17.4 fantasy points per game and has thrown five touchdowns, with just two interceptions. Despite the big arm, Smith should be able to carve the Raiders secondary who ranks last in passing yards allowed per game(330.6). Despite the Raiders being 4-1, they are giving up 452.6 yards per game. An Alex Smith and Jeremy Maclin, or Travis Kelce stack are great options Sunday.

Running Backs

James White vs. Bengals ($4,100)
Initially James White was brought in to replace Shane Vereen. In nine games without Dion Lewis's a year ago, James White had 40 receptions. With Tom Brady back the whole offense get a rejuvenation. It is eye opening that White only played close to half of the Patriots 80 offensive plays week five against the Browns. From this point on, White can be just about a lock for four- five receptions weekly. White brings a different dimension than Blount and Foster to the Patriots hight octane offense.

Ryan Mathews @ Redskins ($4,900)
There are not many teams that are as bad as the Washington Redskins at stopping opposing running backs. The Redskins are giving up 130 yards per game, and have surrendered eight rushing touchdowns. With Ryan Mathews healthy and coming at a sub 5k price tag, we can expect close to 20 touches. Mathews is one of these players that we have to use in certain spots when he is healthy, which isn't often. He is not a play that I feel 100% about in cash games but his depressed price makes him an interesting tournament play.

Wide receivers

Cameron Meredith vs. Jaguars ($4,100)
What a beautiful thing paying $3,000 is for a guy that provides 30.6 Fantasy Points Per Game. With the Bears losing Kevin White for the season some targets have opened up. Cameron Meredith was targeted 12 times, and caught nine of those balls for 130 yards and a touchdown week 5. Meredith will get a Jaguars secondary that has allowed eight receiving touchdowns in five games. He is a big red zone target for Brian Hoyer, and the attention Alshon Jeffery commands weekly, could have secondaries sleeping on the 24 year old. Eddie Royal is also hobbled by injury which would free up some more targets in the Bears offense if he were to sit Sunday.

Chris Hogan vs. Bengals ($4,600)
In New England we knew that when they Patriots threw a decent size contract at Chris Hogan it appeared the organization saw something that they liked. In Tom Brady's first game back, Hogan played 80% of the Patriots snaps, and caught four of five targets for 114 yards. There are weapons galore in New England, and at times its difficult to gauge the touches. Hogan looks like a diamond in the rough. Identifying players with solidified roles before the rest of the pack, can be monumental from a percentage stand point. The Bengals secondary has been atrocious giving up eleven receiving touchdowns through five weeks.

Tight Ends

Charles Clay vs. 49ers ($2,900)
It is well noted how thin the Buffalo Bills are on offense from a talent standpoint. With Sammy Watkins sidelined with a foot issue, LeSean McCoy has gotten the ball 20 times a game. Tyrod Taylor has leaned on Clay the last two games with 12 targets, 10 catches, and 120 yards. With NaVorro Bowman the 49ers will have difficulty with Clay, who comes at a great price. Clay has a top-ten ceiling this week at a top-twenty price tag. Price and opportunity are two of the most important variables in our daily research.

Zach Miller vs. Jaguars ($3,800)
When Zach Miller is healthy he is among the leagues top tight ends. By week six most of the NFL has some kind of ailment, so its no surprise Miller does. Miller caught seven of eight targets for 73 yards against the Colts week 5. There is a narrative here, Miller backed up Marcedes Lewis for three seasons in Jacksonville. The Jaguars have only allowed 99 yards and only one touchdown to tight ends so far this season. Brian Hoyer has been solid all season, I wouldnt be surprised to see a Miller touchdown Sunday, he'll be a problem in the red zone.

Defense/Special Teams

Texans vs. Colts ($2,900)
Andrew Luck has been sacked 20 times so far this season. The Colts have one of the worst offensive lines in the league. Jadeveon Clowney could feast at home, on Sunday night football.
