DFS Gut Plays
If you’re reading this, you are amid a whirlwind of fantasy opinion and statistic overload. With this article, we are looking at matchups that standout after a quick look over of the schedule and prices; going with your gut. Sometimes the obvious play is the best. Other times, it burns us. We’ll try to split the difference. Here we’ll look at Draft Kings (DK) and Yahoo Sports (YS). As always, be sure to know the scoring settings; DK is PPR scoring opposed to .5 PPR for Yahoo.

Quarterbacks

Ben Roethlisberger – Pittsburgh – (DK $6,600 – YS $32)
Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown are the highest priced position players this week. This feels like it could be a classic ‘Bell’ cow game. I like that Ben is priced in no-man’s land on both sites as his ownership in a good matchup should be reasonable. With the emergence of JuJu Smith-Shuster, Roethlisberger is set up for a nice day on the Colts turf as he bolsters his completion percentage and works on his touchdown-to-interception ratio; 10-9. (PIT -10, O/U 44)

Cam Newton – Carolina – (DK $6,700 – YS $)
The Panthers host Miami on Monday night football and I will be playing Cam on Yahoo’s slate which includes the Sunday and Monday night games. Newton has rushed for 180-yards with one score over the last three weeks. That’s what makes him a volatile real life and fantasy play. He can have an average passing day saved by his legs. The Dolphins defense has three interceptions on the season which ties them for second fewest (N.Y. Giants) in the league. (CAR -9, O/U 40)

Ryan Fitzpatrick – Tampa Bay – (DK $4,900 – YS $21)
No one had the New York Jets as the team with something to play for when they visited the Buccaneers this weekend. The revenge game we didn’t know we wanted; Josh McCown opposite Fitz-magic. Fitzpatrick is a perfect one-and-done play this weekend. He’s not going to wow you, but he sure as heck isn’t afraid to sling it. Even without Mike Evans the Bucs’ have the weapons to move the football and cash in on his price tag. (NYJ -2.5, O/U 43)

Running Backs

Matt Forte – N.Y. Jets – (DK $4,400 – YS $13) and Bilal Powell (DK $4,000 – YS $16)
McCown has been very efficient over the last two weeks; throwing for 397-yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. To keep this trend going the Jets need to lean on their two backs. Forte found pay-dirt twice against Buffalo while Powell had 74-yards on nine carries. Forte missed Wednesday’s practice with a knee issue. Powell can easily handle the full workload and becomes a must play RB2 if Forte is out. (NYJ -2.5, O/U 43)

Tevin Coleman – Atlanta – (DK $4,800 – YS $18)
Devonta Freeman is on the injury report again and hasn’t scored in the last four weeks. Coleman, like Powell, can handle and succeed with a number one role and could even be a factor if Freeman is healthy (ATL -3, O/U 50.5)

Wide Receiver

Golden Tate – Detroit – (DK $6,800 – YS $20)

Marvin Jones Jr. (DK $6,200 – YS $21) has been the touchdown maker with three over the last three weeks. Tate has hauled in seven receptions each of the last three weeks for 96, 86 and 113 yards. The Lions struggle to run the football and the one thing Cleveland does well is limit opponents on the ground. At home go all in on Lion passing game. (DET -11.5, O/U 44)

DeSean Jackson – Tampa Bay - (DK $4,900 – YS $17) and Adam Humphries ($3,100 - $12)
The two-for-one specials continue as D-Jax and Humphries get a boost without Mike Evans. Humphries has proven he can rack up the receptions and Jackson just needs a half step to break a big one. (NYJ -2.5, O/U 43)

Brandon Cooks – New England – (DK $6,000 – YS $24)
Anytime a Patriots pass catcher sees a dip in salary I take notice. The Broncos are a mess across the board and Cooks can be a beneficiary of that. Cook’s has received seven or more targets in all but two games this season. (NE -7.5, O/U 46.5)

DK Reception FillersJarvis Landry ($6,100), Sterling Shepard ($5,500)
YS Touchdown MakersJulio Jones ($32), Devin Funchess ($19)

Tight Ends

Austin Seferian-Jenkins – N.Y. Jets – (DK $4,800 – YS $16)
Another trip to this weekend’s value menu; play around with plenty of combinations to see what you like. Where did ASJ start his career? You guessed it, in Tampa Bay. His targets should bounce back to five plus after just seeing two last week against Buffalo. (NYJ -2.5, O/U 43)

Tyler Kroft – Cincinnati – (DK $3,600 – YS $15)
The lesson of the day, if you blind side a player you get a one game suspension (Mike Evans). If you happen to body slam a player then go into ground-and-pound, you get to play (A.J. Green). Kroft has shown he can be effective with everyone on the field for the sputtering Bengals. If you are trying to split the difference between the studs-and-duds at TE, Kroft has four or more receptions in four of their last five games. (TEN -4.5, O/U 40.5)
