Week 3 Flex Targets DraftKings

On DraftKings, there is a flex spot which allows you to take different approaches in your lineup construction. Our goal every week is to find you some solid options that fit in the flex position and provide some nice upside. Let’s dive right into some flex targets for Week 3.

Running Back

Melvin Gordon $5,800 at Indianapolis Colts
Melvin Gordon has scored a touchdown in each game this season and already had a multiple touchdown game in Week 1. With Danny Woodhead headed to the IR, Gordon could be in for a heavy workload this week and potentially the remainder of the season. He faces the Colts who are abysmal against the running back position. Through the first two games of this season, the Colts have allowed 391 total yards and five touchdowns. Gordon received over 20 touches last week and could very well do so again this week. Vegas is projecting this to be a high scoring game and the spread is just 2.5 points, so neither team is expected to get blown out and plenty of points should be scored. Gordon is averaging 20.9 fantasy points per game and needs just 17.4 fantasy points to hit value. Chances are he will be chalky this week, but he is someone you definitely want exposure to. The price is good and this is a favorable matchup.

Theo Riddick $4,900 at Green Bay Packers
Riddick has five targets in each of the first two games of the season and also has 18 carries. With Ameer Abdullah sidelined, Riddick could see a bump in his role in rush attempts. As it is, Riddick has played in 52.1 percent of the offensive snaps and has accounted for 33.3 percent of the Lions red zone targets. He also accounts for 16.7 percent of the Lions targets. His involvement in the passing game alone is enough to warrant him as a flex play. Take that and add the potential increase in carries and we have got ourselves a running back that should not have any issues hitting or exceeding value at this price. We saw what he is capable of doing in Week 1 when the game script called for a lot of passing. This looks to be one of those weeks as the Lions head to Green Bay in a game they are expecting to be chasing points. In the last three games against the Packers, Riddick is averaging 5.3 targets and 4.3 receptions per game. He offers a safe floor as well as decent upside at a reasonable price.

Wide Receiver

Phillip Dorsett $4,400 vs. San Diego Chargers
The prices for this week came out prior to Donte Moncrief’s announcement. For those who are not aware, Moncrief is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a shoulder injury. In his absence, Dorsett is expected to step into the No.2 WR role for the Colts. He has five catches for 124 yards on 11 targets and has played in 78.3 percent of the snaps in the first two weeks. Moncrief received seven targets in Week 1 and three last week before going down with the injury. Those targets will be distributed amongst this offense, but Dorsett could be the main beneficiary. The Chargers have surrendered 28 receptions for 325 yards and two touchdowns to opposing wide receivers this season. Dorsett is not safe enough for cash if you ask me, but he certainly makes an intriguing tournament play as he provides plenty of upside at a low price.

DeVante Parker $4,900 vs. Cleveland Browns
After missing Week 1, Parker returned in Week 2 and caught eight of his 13 targets for 106 yards. Granted, the Dolphins fell behind early against the Patriots forcing them to pass a ton and that may not be the case this week. However, Arian Foster is likely sitting this game out, so the Dolphins running game may not be that strong this weekend and the Browns have not been awful against the run. In addition, Joe Haden will likely be shadowing Jarvis Landry, leaving Parker with the better matchup and the potential to get open more often. Parker was targeted once in the red zone last week, but was unable to convert that into points. At this price, he has the potential to 5X his salary, but he also offers an unsteady floor. He has been limited in practice with a hamstring injury, which it is definitely something you want to keep an eye on, but barring setbacks he should be ready to go. The Browns have allowed two touchdowns in each of the first two games to receivers, to go along with the 23 catches and 331 yards. This is a favorable situation for Parker and one he should be able to exploit.

Tight End

Clive Walford $2,800 at Tennessee Titans
This is the third week in a row, I think, that I am recommending Walford. The first week he let us down, but he made up for it last week if you stuck by him. He caught six of his seven targets for 50 yards and a touchdown. Through two games, he has received 12 targets and accounts for 15 percent of the Raiders targets. In addition, he has played in nearly 60 percent of the offensive snaps. He now has nine receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown this season. This matchup is appealing as the Titans have allowed over 50 yards to opposing tight ends in each of their first two games. His price continues to drop, which is an added bonus for those who roster him as it provides some salary relief to allow you to pay up for some of some of the elite players. I will take a tight end who has received at least five targets in every game this year at this price just about every week.

Eric Ebron $3,700 at Green Bay Packers
Ebron has caught nine passes for 99 yards and a touchdown this season. He is averaging 12.5 fantasy points per game. Ebron has been the recipient of 12 targets and accounts for 16 percent of the Lions targets. He has also accounted for 22.2 percent of the red zone targets. He faces the Packers who have allowed a touchdown in each of their first two games to opposing tight ends. They have surrendered 10 receptions for 143 yards as well. Ebron has been a steady contributor through two game, catching at least four passes in each of those games. This is a matchup where the Lions should be chasing points, so Ebron could receive plenty of looks as the Lions will likely be passing the ball a lot this week.
