Startem sitem 2016 week 3 Thursday

By Brad Kruse
Brad Kruse In this Start Em / Sit Em column each week, I'm looking to find some fringe players that you might consider starting each week and comment based on their matchups. Early on, I'll base my selection of candidates on where they were with respect to ADP. I'm not going to try to pad my stats by suggesting your start Drew Brees each week, but instead trying to dig deep and find some nuggets for players to avoid or to go after. These are coin flip guys and if I can finish the year at better than 60% I'll consider it a success. My metrics to get the start decision are: QB 20 pts or more, RB, WR or TE need to score 12 pts or more for a successful endorsement. Defense/Special Teams should put in 8 points or more to get those picks right. I'll look at ~3-6 players on each Thursday night's game and ~ 6 players for the rest of the week to get you going. This year I'm going to be looking at different ways to integrate daily fantasy pricing and Vegas odds into my decision making process. Good Luck this year!

Chris Hogan WR NE HOU SIT

Hogan currently comes in as the WR36 averaging 12.45 ppg. This is a tough matchup vs HOU with a rookie QB who did complete 2/3 of his pass attempts in relief of Garropolo in week 2. But, expect a reduced passing attack Thursday and don't plan on Hogan being a featured part of it ... wait for Brady's return.

Brock Osweiler QB HOU NE START
New England has been tougher against the run than the pass in the early going. David Johnson did well the first week, but they held Miami's running backs to ~ 3.5 yards per carry in week 2. There is likely a huge disparity in those running attacks. Lamar Miller will probably get his, but he only managed 3.75 yards per carry vs Chicago in week 1 and followed that up with 3.33 yards per carry vs KC in week 2. Miller will be featured, but the air attack from Houston will be utilized. Osweiler put in starting numbers in week 1, was held in check by KC's defense in week 2. Look for a bounce back week 3.

New England D/ST D/ST NE HOU SIT
Unless New England's offense can apply pressure, I suspect Houston's offense won't be gambling a lot although I do expect them to pass the ball. With defenses you typically need multiple turnovers or a defensive TD to make your fantasy week. I'd bet against that in week 3.
