With the Jones-Drew holdout at the 31-day stage, Mularkey was asked if Rashad Jennings will now start the season at running back. Mularkey said, ďToday he is. If there was a game today, I could give you a starting lineup. Right now, to give you a [lineup for a] game thatís playing in two weeks, I could not do that. ...Ē When he was asked if Jones-Drew could still return soon and start the year, Mularkey said, ďIt depends on him. What kind of shape heís in. How fast he picks up the system. Iím not going to put him in a position where he has any chance to fail because in the long run, we all fail. Iím not going to expose him to failure. Itís not going to happen. If heís ready and all those conditioning wise [things], and he picks it up immediately, the faster he can progress, yes. I donít know where weíre at right now. I have no idea. ...Ē When Mularkey was asked if there is a point of no return, he said, ďIíve never gone through this process with any player at any position, so I donít know where weíll be when we get to it.Ē He said Jones-Drew doesnít have a playbook. Jones-Drew also canít put on pads until the fourth day after he does return because of new rules.
