(8/31 2:37 AM PT)
The Facts:
Green went through a full Saturday and is looking forward to returning to action against Pittsburgh. The running back pulled his groin on the first play of the first preseason game and had been working out with the team on a limited basis. "I'm definitely ready to start the game and play the game against Pittsburgh, because it's going to be a physical game," Green said.
Diehards Line:
According to the team's official web site, Green most likely will start the game, but Steve Slaton and Chris Taylor will be called upon to shoulder the load against the Steelers. "To all of a sudden go out there and start and think he (Green) is going to carry the ball 25 times this weekend, I think would be a mistake," HC Gary Kubiak said. Slaton, however, is recovering from turf toe; he should return to practice Monday. Green, Meanwhile, was having an excellent camp before his injury, saying he felt like he did in 2006 when he rushed for over 1,000 yards.

(8/30 10:41 PM PT)
The Facts:
Instead of an arrest, it appears Taylor was basically ticketed for disorderly conduct Saturday outside a Miami Beach nightclub, based on discussions with Taylor, Miami Beach police and his attorney, Adam Swickle. "It's nothing more than a ticket, just like if you were pulled over for speeding or pulled over with a problem with your license and they give you a date and a time and a document to appear," Swickle said.
Diehards Line:
The attorney added: "He was never formally arrested, never booked, didn't post a bond and he has not been charged with anything. We're pretty confident obviously that he won't be charged with anything.I can tell you, there is no way he could've been arrested because he never would have been given a notice to appear. ..." Stay tuned. We haven't heard the last of this one.

class="headline" onClick="expanddiv('tr3')" style="cursor:hand; cursor:pointer" onmouseover="window.status=' ';return true">Jesse Chatman Suspended For Four Games
(8/30 10:40 PM PT)
The Facts:
Chatman was suspended without pay by the NFL on Saturday for the team's first four regular-season games for violating the league's steroids and related-substances policy. Chatman, who signed with the Jets as a free agent in March, is eligible to rejoin the team Sept. 29, a day after New York's game against Arizona.
Diehards Line:
With Chatman, the team's most effective back in pre-season action, sitting out four games, the only running backs on the team's roster after cutdowns Saturday were starter Thomas Jones and backup Leon Washington, along with fullback Tony Richardson. HC Eric Mangini wouldn't say whether the team will look into bringing in another tailback during Chatman's absence. "We'll gauge it week in and week out," he said. "Tony Richardson has run the ball in the past and (wide receiver) Brad Smith can be used back there as well, so we'll definitely have alternatives in place." Mangini said Chatman will have a job waiting for him when he finishes serving the suspension.

(8/30 2:11 PM PT)
The Facts:
Taylor was arrested outside of a Miami Beach nightclub early Sunday morning and charged with disorderly conduct. Taylor was not taken to jail, according to a spokesman for the Miami Beach Police Department. He was instead released on his own recognizance with a promise to appear in court.
Diehards Line:
The exact circumstances leading to Taylor's arrest weren't known on Sunday. The Miami Beach Police Department's records division, which provides police reports, is closed until Tuesday for the Labor Day weekend. ... While arrests are never good news, we're not going to drop Taylor in our rankings based on this incident. We will, however, be watching for more details and will update further as developments warrant.

class="headline" onClick="expanddiv('tr5')" style="cursor:hand; cursor:pointer" onmouseover="window.status=' ';return true">It's Official: Cardinals Name Kurt Warner Week 1 Starter
(8/30 1:57 PM PT)
The Facts:
HC Ken Whisenhunt said Saturday that Warner will be the team’s starting quarterback for the regular-season opener Sept. 7 in San Francisco.
Diehards Line:
Warner, who threw for 27 touchdowns in 2007 after taking over for an injured Matt Leinart, completed 12-of-17 passes in the preseason for 142 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions and a passing rating of 95.7. Leinart, playing significantly more, completed 28-of-45 passes for 354 yards, two touchdowns, three interceptions and a passing rating of 73.8. ... Leinart looked OK in three of the four preseason games, but struggled mightily in the third game against Oakland, throwing three interceptions. He rebounded against Denver in the final preseason game and Whisenhunt praised Leinart for responding to adversity. Yet Warner, who has a more defined track record, got the call.

(8/30 1:38 PM PT)
The Facts:
The Texans have placed Brown on injured reserve, putting the team at the 53-player limit.
Diehards Line:
Brown, 27, has battled a back injury through training camp after signing a two-year contact in the offseason with the Texans. The move leaves the team with Ahman Green, Chris Taylor and rookie Steve Slaton on the roster. Green is coming off an injured groin suffered in the pre-season opener; Slaton is nursing a turf toe. Don't be surprised if the Texans take a close look at the waiver wire; we suspect Rudi Johnson's name will jump off the list.

class="headline" onClick="expanddiv('tr7')" style="cursor:hand; cursor:pointer" onmouseover="window.status=' ';return true">Agent: Bengals Releasing Rudi Johnson
(8/30 11:14 AM PT)
The Facts:
Even though he returned to practice last week, the Bengals apparently decided they hadn't seen enough of the new and improved Johnson this summer and cut the man once projected to be their bell-cow running back. Peter Schaffer, his agent, said Saturday from Denver, "That's what we've been told."
Diehards Line:
HC Marvin Lewis is expected to make an official announcement of all the team's roster moves this afternoon. But Profootballtalk.com is independently reporting the move is coming. Given the definitive nature of Schaffer's comments, it's safe to say it's coming. "Obviously we got wind they were moving in a different direction when (ESPN) reported they were trying to trade him," Schaffer told the team's official web site. "We think Rudi's got plenty of football left and we're going to look for the best situation for him. ..." Johnson's release appears to leave the Bengals with three running backs in Chris Perry, Kenny Watson, and DeDe Dorsey.

(8/30 10:19 AM PT)
The Facts:
Faulk has been suspended without pay for the team's first regular-season game and fined one additional game check for violating the NFL Substance Abuse Policy following a marijuana-related arrest earlier this year.
Diehards Line:
Faulk’s suspension for the Patriots' first regular-season game will begin on Saturday, August 30. He is eligible to return to the Patriots’ active roster on Monday, September 8 following the team’s September 7 opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.

(8/30 8:13 AM PT)
The Facts:
Manning is, to use his phrase, "in uncharted territory," but he figures to find his way. Bottom line: "I'd be surprised if I wasn't out there starting (next) Sunday night," the Indianapolis Colts franchise quarterback said Friday. That would put Manning under center Sept. 7 when the Colts open the season with Chicago at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Diehards Line:
That doesn't mean he's a lock. ... "We just sort of knock on wood to wake up each morning not having setbacks and feeling good and just trying to progress and hopefully it feels a little better each day," Manning said. ... For what it's worth, Manning said he probably will continue rehabilitation through most or all of the season. He said he will have to be smart about how far he extends himself in practice but that he has been studying the Bears on film and he's grateful for the on-field head start he got this week.

class="headline" onClick="expanddiv('tr10')" style="cursor:hand; cursor:pointer" onmouseover="window.status=' ';return true">Steven Jackson Has Plenty Of Incentive To Excel
(8/30 7:13 AM PT)
The Facts:
According to league sources, Jackson needs to average 1,200 yards rushing and 400 yards receiving over the first four years of his new contract -- from 2008 through 2011 -- to void the final two years of his new six-year deal.
Diehards Line:
If Jackson reaches the 1,200-400 average, his base salary will increase, or "escalate," $3 million in both 2012 and 2013, the final two years of his contract. But if he reaches those statistical plateaus, either he or the Rams will be able to void the final two years of his contract. Without the escalators, Jackson's contract is worth $44.805 million over six years. If the escalators are reached and the final two years of the deal are voided, it becomes a four-year, $30.805 million contract. Either way, it makes Jackson one of the highest-paid running backs in the NFL. ... As for the $393,016 in fines Jackson piled up during his 27-day holdout? It is being deducted from his $11.395 million signing bonus.
