(5/2 12:13 AM PT)
The Facts:
Cutler was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, a Broncos source confirmed. Cutler will have to monitor his diet, particularly carbohydrates, and continually monitor his blood-sugar levels, but modern medicine allows people to live long and healthy lives with the disease.
Diehards Line:
While this is the most serious type of diabetes, making Cutler insulin dependent, the Broncos are confident it will not negatively impact his career performance. Cutler has been taking insulin shots since he was diagnosed and has been participating in the Broncos' offseason workout program. "People need to understand this is very treatable," a Broncos source told Post staffer Mike Klis. "Jay's going to be fine. ..." According to Klis, the Broncos knew of Cutler's disease before the NFL draft last week but didn't select a quarterback, a sign the team is confident their quarterback has his condition under control.

(5/2 12:10 AM PT)
The Facts:
White, who was issued a citation in Denver in March, had the case continued to June 2 on Thursday. Denver police issued White a citation in March on charges of destruction of property and disobedience to a lawful order/ interference and resistance.
Diehards Line:
White has been working out with the Titans during the team’s off-season program and at this point, there's no reason to believe this will be a major or ongoing issue.

class="headline" onClick="expanddiv('tr3')" style="cursor:hand; cursor:pointer" onmouseover="window.status=' ';return true">Shaun Alexander To Visit Bengals
(5/1 11:47 AM PT)
The Facts:
The agent for Alexander said Thursday that his client is scheduled to visit the Bengals on Monday, but Jim Steiner stressed the visit is "very preliminary." "Shaun wants to get an idea how the Bengals would use him and I'm sure the Bengals would like to talk to him," Steiner said. "But there is interest on both sides."
Diehards Line:
As Bengals.com staffer Geoff Hobson notes, the team usually keeps just three tailbacks on the roster. If Rudi Johnson and Chris Perry are healthy, what to do they do with Kenny Watson and DeDe Dorsey if they sign Alexander? There is, of course, plenty of time to figure all that out. Remember: Johnson is also coming off an injury plagued season, Perry hasn't played in a game since November of 2006 and Kenny Irons isn't ready to work out in May and June. As previously suggested, much will depend on how reasonable Alexander's contract demands will be. Stay tuned.

(5/1 12:10 AM PT)
The Facts:
The signing of Pinner by the Lions on Wednesday likely means that rookie third-round pick Kevin Smith is the only running back with a lock on a roster position.
Diehards Line:
According to MLive.com beat man Tom Kowalski, the Lions didn't bring in Pinner to carry the ball in pre-season mop-up time. He's there to compete for a job and that means that Tatum Bell and Brian Calhoun are on shaky ground. Is he a better runner than Bell -- or even Calhoun? Probably not. But what Pinner gives you and the other two don't is special teams contributions. Backup running backs must deliver something on special teams and that's why Kowalski believes it's extremely unlikely that both Bell and Calhoun will make Detroit's final roster.

(4/30 12:27 PM PT)
The Facts:
So, what are the chances Alexander (from nearby Florence, Kentucky), who was terminated by the Seahawks this offseason after eight years in Seattle winds up in Cincinnati? "Making calls to teams. Bengals are on our list!" Jim Steiner, Alexander's agent, told the Enquirer in an e-mail this morning.
Diehards Line:
As Enquirer staffer Mark Curnutte points out, the draft is completed. The Bengals did not select a back. HC Marvin Lewis said the team is optimistic that Rudi Johnson and Chris Perry will return to health and the field in 2008. There is depth with Kenny Watson. There is the untapped potential of DeDe Dorsey and Kenny Irons, who probably won't be ready for the start of training camp as he continues to rehab from a torn ACL injury. ... Remember: Alexander turns 31 before the start of the season and his best days appear to be behind him. He'll need to be realistic about contract demands.

(4/30 12:18 PM PT)
The Facts:
Mike Holmgren told reporters on Wednesday that rehab on Branch going well but the coach does not expect him to be there at the beginning of the year.
Diehards Line:
That's no real surprise. ... Branch underwent reconstructive surgery in January. The usual nine-month turnaround following such surgery will obviously be problematic. And as Holmgren pointed out early this year, it can take some players, especially those who rely on their speed, longer to return to previous form.

class="headline" onClick="expanddiv('tr7')" style="cursor:hand; cursor:pointer" onmouseover="window.status=' ';return true">Holmgren: Seahawks Will Rely On RB By Committee
(4/30 12:13 PM PT)
The Facts:
HC Mike Holmgren told reporters on Wednesday the Seahawks' running game will be by committee, which means that Maurice Morris will be on the roster, and he does not expect one back to ever get 25 carries in a game.
Diehards Line:
That also means Julius Jones' value won't change greatly following the move from Dallas. Jones is the likely starter with T.J. Duckett handling the short-yardage and goal-line work. Morris appears to be best suited for a third-down role. Fantasy owners will obviously want to keep an eye on the situation to make sure it plays out as expected.

class="headline" onClick="expanddiv('tr8')" style="cursor:hand; cursor:pointer" onmouseover="window.status=' ';return true">Raiders Believe LaMont Jordan Has Trade Value
(4/30 11:15 AM PT)
The Facts:
The Raiders are holding onto Jordan, a league source said, because some in the organization believe they can still get trade value for the man who ran for 1,025 yards in 2005.
Diehards Line:
As Chronicle staffer David White suggested, at this point, teams are more likely to wait for Jordan's release so they can sign him to a cheaper deal. Whatever the case, look for Jordan to move on well before the season begins with Oakland plenty comfortable opening camp with Justin Fargas, Darren McFadden and Michael Bush competing for touches.

class="headline" onClick="expanddiv('tr9')" style="cursor:hand; cursor:pointer" onmouseover="window.status=' ';return true">Daunte Culpepper No Longer Of Interest To Pack
(4/29 11:19 PM PT)
The Facts:
With the Packers adding two quarterbacks in the draft last weekend it is unlikely Green Bay will pursue Culpepper further. He visited Green Bay prior to the draft.
Diehards Line:
According to ESPN.com's Bill Williamson, it wouldn't be a total shock if Culpepper returns to Oakland. The Raiders could use another quarterback and the Culpepper-Raiders' marriage was mostly a pleasant experience in 2007. Culpepper has to know he'll be a backup anywhere he signs so perhaps the familiarity of Oakland will appeal to him. And as Williamson further noted, the veteran QB doesn't seem to have many options at this point, anyway.

class="headline" onClick="expanddiv('tr10')" style="cursor:hand; cursor:pointer" onmouseover="window.status=' ';return true">Jones: Terry Glenn 50-50 To Start
(4/29 10:55 PM PT)
The Facts:
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said there's a 50-50 chance that Glenn will start in 2008.
Diehards Line:
Without Glenn, the Cowboys had a very good offense last season, it was probably better than the one they had in 2006. So, if Glenn returns, DMN staffer Calvin Watkins believes it could be even better with improved youngsters Sam Hurd and Miles Austin better prepared to contribute and Patrick Crayton moving back to the No. 3 role behind Glenn and Terrell Owens. All in all, a formidable group whether Glenn's surgically-repaired knee holds up or not.
