Following up on the ongoing story. ... A setback in receiver Greg Jennings’ rehab has put his status in doubt for Monday’s game at Seattle.
Jennings missed last Thursday’s game against Chicago because of a groin injury. On Tuesday, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he expected Jennings to be available for the Seahawks game, but Jennings couldn’t practice today.
“Greg Jennings worked in the rehab on Tuesday, (and it) didn’t go as well as we would have hoped,” McCarthy said. “He had some more testing done yesterday, so he was in rehab today. I have not had a chance to talk to Greg or the training staff. But it is a Wednesday on a normal week, so we’ll see what happens.”
According to Green Bay Press Gazette staffer Rob Demovsky, McCarthy didn’t say how severe of a setback Jennings sustained.
“Well, it wasn’t what we expected Tuesday when we went down to the practice (field),” McCarthy said. “We were going to warm him (up), rehab him before practice and hopefully have him do some work on the practice field, and we didn’t get to that. Maybe we were a little too optimistic, and he’s not quite where we hoped he’d be by now. He wants to go, but we’re just being smart.”
Given how much time Jennings missed in training camp because of a concussion, Demovsky notes that Aaron Rodgers hasn’t had a lot of reps with his top receiver so far this season.
“Not really concerned, but I think it’s something we have to think about,” Rodgers said. “We have a lot of game reps together. I’m not sure where’s he at with his legs and his conditioning and his running. If he’s out there, it’s going to help our offense, but we definitely haven’t had a lot of reps in training camp and the season thus far. It’s going to be important to be on the same page, and that’s got to come through getting him out there and giving him some chances to catch the ball. ...”
Stay tuned. ... More on Jennings throughout the weekend.
Meanwhile, Randall Cobb (hamstring) was limited Wednesday but Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel staffer Tom Silverstein advised readers the second-year receiver should be fine by Monday.
