Following up on an item in this week's Team Notes. ... Fred Jackson has been out on the practice field doing his own drills on the side the past two days. He’s encouraged by his progress and so is his head coach, who admitted the running back is ahead of schedule.
“Yeah he is,” said head coach Chan Gailey. ”He must be a fast healer.”
Less than two weeks into his rehab for his sprained LCL, Gailey isn’t ready to put a timetable on a possible return for Jackson. As BuffaloBills.com staffer Chris Brown reminded readers, the team gave an initial prognosis of three to eight weeks, but Jackson said last week he intended to be back in four weeks, which would be Buffalo’s Week 5 road game at San Francisco.
Of course, if C.J. Spiller continues to produce at his current rate, the chances of Jackson regaining his starting job -- or even being a major contributor -- are slim.
That said, the chances of Spiller continuing to average better than 10 yards a carry aren't good either. And if he can manage it, he'll certainly need some breathers.
