NEW YORK GIANTS UPDATE

lNO SETBACK FOR NICKS; SHORT WEEK THE ISSUE

Following up on an item in this week's Team Notes. ... Hakeem Nicks, fresh off a 10-catch, 199-yard performance against the Buccaneers, will not play Thursday night against the Panthers.

Nicks, who broke a bone in his right foot this offseason, was originally listed as questionable for the game but was later downgraded to out. He did not participate in this morning's jog-through and did not travel to North Carolina, according the team.

The good news?

Newark Star-Ledger staff writer Jenny Vrentas, citing two people with knowledge of Nicks' condition, reports there was no setback. Rather the soreness in his foot was too much to overcome on a short week.

The Giants will have a 10-day layoff after tomorrow night's game before playing at Philadelphia Sept. 30.

Nicks has been playing through pain in his foot, which was aggravated when Bucs safety Mark Barron accidentally stepped on his injured foot in Sunday's game. Nicks struggled when he tried running on the foot Wednesday morning.

Nicks' absence is no doubt a huge blow to the Giants, who are already without running back Ahmad Bradshaw (neck), right tackle David Diehl (knee) and No. 3 receiver Domenik Hixon (concussion).

Behind Victor Cruz, the Giants have Ramses Barden, Rueben Randle and Jerrel Jernigan.

Andre Brown is expected to handle the featured role in the backfield with Bradshaw out; David Wilson will be standing by as needed.
