The Facts: With the longest stretch of consecutive days of practicing coming to an end, Newton's day under center came to an end just before the finish line. After taking part in a team period during the first half of practice, Newton was an interested observer in the final three team periods Sunday while remaining an active participant in individual drills. "That's part of the maintenance," HC Ron Rivera said of Newton, who arrived at camp having not thrown in a practice since undergoing shoulder surgery four months ago.
Diehards Line:Rivera added: "Don't be surprised. It could happen at any practice. It's all just part of the process of him getting back to shape. Five straight days of work, and we saw it, and he went out reluctantly. ..." It makes sense. The Panthers will continue nursing Newton through training camp as they monitor his recovery after he had the rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder repaired. ... We'll continue to follow up as needed.
