The Facts: Even though Beckham is still two seasons out from free agency, he's making his feelings known already that he wants to get paid. And the Giants star is not settling for the title of highest-paid wide receiver, either. "It's like the elephant in the room, and you don't want to talk about it," Beckham said on Thursday. "But I've gotten to the point in my life where I'm like, 'No, I'm going to. ... There's no need to not talk about it. I believe that I will be hopefully not just the highest-paid receiver in the league, but the highest paid, period."
Diehards Line:
Beckham's base salary in the final year of his rookie deal is $1.839 million, followed by a $8.459 million payday for the subsequent season because the Giants picked up his fifth-year option. Giants owner John Mara said negotiations with the star pass catcher "haven't begun as of yet," but Beckham desiring a higher figure than Derek Carr's five-year, $125 million extension figures to be a tough pill to swallow. Remember, the league's current highest-paid wideout, Antonio Brown, earns an average salary of $17 million. So it should be interesting to see how things play out from here given the parameters Beckham would like to set for his future compensation.
