The Facts: Stafford remains in line for a contract extension this summer, and his No. 1 receiver is hoping he gets one, too. Tate took to Twitter on Thursday to say he hopes he gets a new deal that will keep him in Detroit for at least the next few seasons. "I hope I'm one of the next ones to get extended..... big plays can come in all shapes and forms huh?" Tate tweeted.
Diehards Line:
Tate took to social media after New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman signed a two-year extension that reportedly will pay him a maximum of $19.5 million in the 2017-19 seasons. Tate has two years left on the five-year, $31 million deal he signed with the Lions as a free agent in 2014. The 28-year-old - he turns 29 in August - has had at least 90 catches in each of his first three seasons in Detroit, and is underpaid by current wide receiver standards. Indeed, Tate, who's two years younger than Edelman, led the Lions last year with 91 catches for 1,077 yards and scored four touchdowns. ... While one could easily argue Tate is underpaid, the fact there are two years left on his current deal make it unlikely anything will happen soon.
