The Facts: Robinson believes he has "earned" a contract extension but will be able to separate the business and football aspects. "If we get something done, we do and if not, I have a big year coming ahead for me and I have an obligation to my teammates to play at a high level," Robinson said.
Diehards Line:
Now eligible for an extension, Robinson may get his payday before the regular season opener. If new football boss Tom Coughlin wants to see more from him, though, the onus will be a strong start to solidify his future. Robinson emerged in 2015, catching 80 passes for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. He followed that with 883 yards on 73 catches but his touchdown total dropped to six. Robinson’s 2,283 receiving yards since 2015 is 11th in the NFL. Robinson had two 100-yard games (107 in Week 10 vs. Houston and 147 in Week 16 vs. Tennessee) last year, but what also jumped off the page were games of nine, 18, 24, 31, 17 and 15 yards. As Times-Union staffer Ryan O’Halloran suggests, the Jaguars, regardless of who was at fault last year, need to make Robinson the focal point of the passing game this year. Expect that to happen.
