The Facts: The Fitzpatrick Era officially will come to an end on Friday when his contract with the Jets automatically voids.
Diehards Line:Fitzpatrick will be a free agent, but the Jets will carry a $5 million charge against the 2017 salary cap after giving him a $10 million signing bonus last year as part of his one-year, $12 million deal. Some will remember the veteran's underwhelming performance during the Jets' 5-11 campaign, but it's impossible to ignore the positive impact that he made on the organization during his short stay. That said, nothing went right in 2016. Fitzpatrick was benched twice, went 3-8 as a starter and battled a knee injury. Fitzpatrick is undecided about his future.
