The Facts: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the Cowboys' "No. 1 priority this offseason is trading Romo. Barring retirement, which I understand is still a possibility for Romo, he is not going to want to be the Cowboys' backup next season."
Diehards Line:
Rapoport added that it might not be easy to find the perfect dance partner for the four-time Pro Bowler. "It's no secret that his No. 1 spot would be the Denver Broncos, but from what I understand that is not something the Broncos are not inclined to do," he said. "Then you start to think about where can he go? Maybe the Bills, maybe the Bears, maybe the Texans. All of those things would have to be a perfect fit. And from the people I'm talking to, trading Tony Romo would be a lot harder immediately this offseason than anyone really anticipated. ..." Whatever the case, it's important to understand that Dallas' respect for Romo and their desire to trade him are mutually exclusive. While that may seem harsh, Romo has apparently made it clear that he has no interest in backing up Dak Prescott for the foreseeable future. Jerry Jones' ability to get Romo in a place that makes him happy and affords him the chance to start is the best thing he can do for his long-time franchise passer right now. It will be one of the offseason's biggest story lines.
