The Facts: The Saints and Brees have until the start of the regular season to talk about an extension before Brees says he'll put a stop to the conversations. It looks like they will get the deal done. PFT has learned, via a league source, that the two sides are close on an agreement that would keep Brees in New Orleans beyond the expiration of his contract at the end of the 2016 season.

According to PFT's Mike Florio, there’s no word on the total figures or length of the deal, but it’s likely to be right in the neighborhood of the $24.594 million a year average that Andrew Luck got in his new deal with the Colts. Brees has said he’d like to keep playing several more years and retire with the Saints, so it’s also likely to be one that runs to a point when retirement is the next question Brees faces about his football future. ...
