The Facts: Following up on a previous item. ... With backup quarterback Kellen Moore injured, the Cowboys are down to rookie fourth-round draft pick Dak Prescott and camp arm Jameill Showers behind the oft-injured Tony Romo. That's not where they want to be. And so the Cowboys are discussing a trade or free agent signing, Ed Werder of ESPN reports. The three names mentioned are Cleveland's Josh McCown, Tampa Bay's Mike Glennon and free agent Nick Foles, who was cut by Los Angeles before training camp started.
Diehards Line:
The advantage to Foles would be that the Cowboys wouldn’t have to give up anything to get him. It’s unclear how much the Browns or Buccaneers would demand in a trade for McCown or Glennon. In addition, Dallas was one of two teams (along with Buffalo) to discuss a potential Foles trade with the Rams before the draft. As PFT suggests, whoever the No. 2 quarterback is in Dallas, the most important thing for the Cowboys is that Romo remains healthy: Over their last 36 games, the Cowboys are 17-5 with Romo and 1-13 without him.
