The Facts:
According to Post staffer Hal Habib, Ajayi could wind up with more receptions than anyone not named Jarvis Landry. Last season, Lamar Miller held that honor with 47 catches out of the backfield. This year, the logical expectation is for Landry and DeVante Parker to lead the team in receptions, but don't discount the possibility that Ajayi becomes a go-to guy for Ryan Tannehill's check-downs.
Diehards Line:
Remember, RB Matt Forte caught 44 passes in Gase’s offense for Chicago last season. Ajayi wouldn't mind that at all. “His offenses in the past, the running backs have always been needed to make plays, running routes and catching the football,” Ajayi said, adding that the backs have spent considerable time on that. “We’ve just been working on all these new routes. Last year we didn’t have as many routes as we do now.” Also in need of some work? Perhaps Ajayi's general receiving skills. According to Miami Herald staffer Barry Jackson, Ajayi has dropped “a few” passes during offseason workouts and “doesn’t always seem a natural pass-catcher.” The second-year tailback caught 50 passes for 535 yards in his final season at Boise State. In nine games as a rookie last season, he caught only seven passes.
