The Facts: HC Rex Ryan said Tuesday that Williams is "not anywhere close to where he needs to be to play at a high level" and that he will need to focus on getting in better shape before he'll be doing more than individual drills. "We're not going to put a ridiculous weight number on him when he comes back, we're going to put something that's obtainable for him," Ryan said. "What you don't want to do, you don't want to have him, all of a sudden he's going to drop 20 pounds and he comes out here and he gets hurt the first day of training camp; that's what we're trying to avoid. So we got to get him to do the right things now."
Diehards Line:
Williams, who is listed at 230 pounds, said he didn’t think the target weight was “far off” and explained that his fiancee’s pregnancy was the root cause of his expanding waistline. The good news? Williams’ fiancee gave birth last month, so as PFT suggests, those temptations should be off the table along with other fattening items as Williams tries to bring less of himself to training camp next month.
