The Facts: When the Giants close out their offseason program this week with mandatory minicamp, Cruz may be doing some real work with his teammates. He could be practicing to some degree for the first time since last November. "I'm feeling good. I ran some routes this past Friday, some full speed routes and everything went well," Cruz said Saturday. "We'll see what happens next week. They might throw me out there with the wolves a little bit so we'll see how it goes."
Diehards Line:
Cruz has spent most of the spring watching and working with a trainer on the side while he rehabs after missing most of the past two seasons with knee and calf injuries. HC Ben McAdoo has said the Giants were working to have him back for training camp. Indeed, this could well be Cruz being overly optimistic. McAdoo said he was still in a "holding pattern" earlier this month and they were "looking forward to getting him back to training camp." It might not be in anyone's best interest to have Cruz return to practice this week. It's only minicamp, and it's a long season where the Giants are hoping he can be healthy for an entire summer and 16+ games. Cruz, 29, tore the patellar tendon in his right knee during the 2014 season. He hurt his calf last summer and had several setbacks before his season officially ended in November without playing a single snap. Fantasy owners shouldn't base their expectations on Cruz's optimism. They should based it on what they see when Cruz is back on the field.
