The Facts: It's still not certain who the Broncos' starting quarterback will be in their season opener, Sept. 8 against the Panthers. But there is a clearer favorite. It is the veteran, Sanchez.
Diehards Line:
Last week, HC Gary Kubiak mixed up the first, second and third team reps with Sanchez, Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch. Siemian seemed to be the better of the three, at least during the practice open to the media.
This week is the Broncos’ mandatory minicamp. And for this, Sanchez worked exclusively with the first teamers Tuesday. Siemian and Lynch mixed in with the second and third-team reps. “Trying to settle down a little bit this week and work that way,” Kubiak said about his quarterback rotation. “I may change next week. I don't know. But that was our priority this week, to settle down and work that way.' As 9News.com's Mike Klis suggests, there is some logic to having Sanchez start the opener. He’s started 78 games in the NFL, and attempted more than 2,400 passes. Siemian and Lynch have combined for one NFL snap, and zero passes. Asked if he expects to be the Broncos’ No. 1 quarterback when training camp opens in late-July, Sanchez said: “Of course. I think you have to expect that. That's the way you have to compete. There's no second-guessing yourself. When you get on the field, you've got to be the baddest dude out there and play your butt off.”
