The Facts: In his latest update on the team's quarterback situation, HC Doug Pederson said that quarterback Sam Bradford has taken "the next step to be the leader of this football team and be the starter." That's not a particularly surprising place for Bradford to find himself given how routinely members of the Eagles organization have called him the No. 1 quarterback this offseason. Of course, that's been balanced by the arrival of Wentz with the second overall pick of the draft and the start of the clock for when he'll move up to the top of the depth chart. Based on OC Frank Reich's comments about Wentz, it won't be long before he's ready mentally. Reich said on Sirius XM NFL Radio that Wentz "picks up everything very fast."
Diehards Line:
“His aptitude is off the charts,” Reich said. “I’m not sure I’ve been around a guy that has as high an aptitude as him at this age. It’s really, really good and he has the work ethic to go along with it. He also has a maturity and a class about him to understand his role and understand he’s gotta earn his stripes. He’s doing that. He’s got a great attitude about it.” Reich added that Wentz is “a dominant athlete” for the quarterback position, so the Eagles definitely sound pleased with the player they traded up to acquire in April. As PFT suggests, that may not speed Wentz’s rise to the first team if Bradford is successful this season, but any other outcome could find things moving more quickly.
